No. 7 Kutztown Holds Off No. 9 Marauders

Box Score

Kutztown, Pa. - The No. 9-ranked Millersville field hockey team controlled the second half, but it was homestanding Kutztown that scored twice to pull away late for a key PSAC Eastern Division victory by a 3-1 score Tuesday evening.

The Marauders (9-9, 2-5 PSAC East) and No. 7 Golden Bears (12-6, 4-3 PSAC East) stood tied 1-1 at the half, and Millersville totaled a 10-4 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners in the second half. But Kutztown's Emily Falko turned away all five shots put on goal, and Carrie Healey and Kim Angstadt scored goals within nine minutes of each other to put the Golden Bears on top for good.

The scoring started early with Kutztown receiving a goal from Anne Waapu just 6:20 into the contest. It didn't take long for the Marauders to tie the score, though, as Kristie Testa scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season off an assist from fellow senior Meredith Dolinger at the 10:55 mark.

Goalkeeper Sara Dickinson made four saves including three in the first period. Falko made all five of her saves in the second half.

Millersville closes the 2009 regular season at home Friday against No. 1 Bloomsburg. Game time is 3 p.m.
