No. 2 Shippensburg Escapes No. 8 Millersville's Upset Bid

Box Score
Millersville, Pa.- The No. 8 Millersville field hockey team took No. 2 Shippensburg into only its third overtime game this season in search of an upset, but fell short 3-2 Tuesday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

The squads were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, sending the game into extra periods. Millersville could not connect on either of its two overtime shots, and Shippensburg came up empty on its first three. But 11 minutes into overtime, Shippensburg's (16-1) Laura Wylde notched her second goal of the game to seal the victory for the Lady Raiders.

The Marauders (7-8) took the lead early with a goal at the 8:20 mark from senior Kristie Testa off an assist from junior Emily Woodland. Shippensburg answered shortly after with a goal from Wylde, and then took the lead on a goal from Tully less than four minutes later.

Trailing 2-1, Millersville caused a penalty stroke opportunity six minutes into the second period, and senior Krista Bupp connected for a goal to tie the game. Despite taking 10 shots in the half, the Marauders couldn't get past Shippensburg goalkeeper Amanda Houser as regulation time expired.

As overtime was winding down, Shippensburg finally found its way past sophomore goalkeeper Sara Dickinson. Dickinson tallied 11 saves in the game. Additionally, it was only the third time this season Shippensburg had allowed an opponent to score two or more goals.

The Marauders travel to Erie this weekend for two match-ups against Limestone on Friday at 12 p.m., and Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m.
