Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Millersville women's basketball team trailed Slippery Rock at halftime but used a dominating second half effort to notch a 60-48 victory at Morrow Field House Saturday afternoon.
Millersville (10-2) and Slippery Rock (5-6) exchanged the lead six times in the first half, and a Hailey Gadosh layup with 37 seconds left gave the home team a 29-28 lead at the break.
Gladine St. Julien paced the Marauders early, scoring 11 of her game-high 17 points in the first half.
St. Julien jump-started the Marauders' offense in the second half as well. Her bucket at the 18:52 mark gave Millersville the lead and ignighted an 11-4 run through the first six minutes of the second period. Millersville continued to grow the lead and pushed it to as many as 18 with just under a minute left on a pair of free throws from St. Julien.
While the Millersville offense hit 13-of-26 shots from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the second period, it was again the PSAC's best scoring defense that set the tone for the comeback. After Slippery Rock knocked down nearly 42 percent of its shots in the first period, it managed just 8-of-30 shooting against the Millersville defense in the second half.
Along with 17 points, St. Julien added eight boards including four offensive, three assists and one block.
Jenna Craig turned in her team-leading fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Five of her rebounds were on the offensive end. Senior
Jenna Philo scored in double figures for the second-straight game, chipping in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting. She also hit 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Philo's also grabbed six boards and her four assists tied
Aiesha Bellamy for team-high honors.
Millersville has now held nine of their 11 opponents under 60 points and has held teams under 50 eight times.
