ABOUT THE GAME

• Millersville has started 3-0 for the second consecutive season after defeating Goldey Beacom on Wednesday, 69-30. It was the second time this season that Millersville held an opponent to 30 points, a feat never before accomplished by a Marauder team under head coach Mary Fleig. Millersville's regular season winning streak now stands at 16 games, with its most recent regular season loss coming last January to Indiana (Pa.).

• The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils are coming off of back-to-back losses at home to PSAC East opponents East Stroudsburg and Kutztown. USP is currently 2-3 and have yet to play a game on the road this season. Millersville has enjoyed both contests so far at home this season, winning by comfortable margins over both Lock Haven and Columbia Union in the season-opening Tip-off Classic.

• Coach Mary Fleig is entering her 19th season at Millersville and is looking to take her team to an eighth-straight appearance in the PSAC semifinals. Fleig has enjoyed a winning season at Millersville in 17 of her 18 seasons and will be looking to post back-to-back undefeated Eastern Division titles after running the table last season . Fleig is currently the tenth-most winningest coach in NCAA Division II history with 445 career victories.

. After Monday night's tangle with USP, Millersville will be off until Friday, December 5th when they travel to West Chester for the first of two games at the annual West Chester Tournament.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT

• University of the Sciences competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) making the Sciences the second straight opponent from the CACC for Millersville. USP has begun the season 2-3, collecting wins over West Chester and Briarcliffe and dropping contests to Kutztown, East Stroudsburg and College of St. Rose.

• USP's season began with the James A. Richardson Tip-off Tournament held at Lincoln University• The team fell, 79-48, to a Saint Rose team that is receiving votes in the Preseason USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll. The following night, USP found themselves on the other end of a blowout defeating Briarcliffe 83-34. USP then held their home opener against PSAC opponent West Chester, and defeated the Golden Rams by pulling away in the second half, 65-55. The Devils then began a two-game slide with back-to-back losses to PSAC opponents East Stroudsburg (76-68) and Kutztown (64-52).

• The Devils finished the 2007-08 season with a 19-10 record and qualified for the CACC playoffs as the Southern Division's No. 4 seed. USP went quietly in the playoffs, losing in the first round of the league tournament to eventual CACC champion Holy Family, 60-48.

• 6-foot, 1-inch junior Erin Chesnavich returns as USP's leading scorer. Chesnavich is averaging 18.3 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.2 boards per game. Chesnavich was an ALL-CACC First Team Selection for her efforts during the 2007-08 season. As a sophomore, Chesnavich led the CACC in field goal percentage (56.3 %) and ranked 17th in the nation in the category. She ranked third in the CACC with 1.52 blocks, sixth in scoring with 14.5 per game and seventh with 8.9 rebounds per game.

• Joining Chesnavich with All-CACC honors last year was current senior Allison Weiss who was a Third Team Selection in 2007-08. Weiss was second in the league in field goal percentage (53.5%) and led the Devils in rebounding (8.93/game) and assists (113). Second-year standout Alyssa Hamm is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game and also leads the Devils in steals with 19 while starting all fives games. Sophomore Caitlin Shaw has started four games for USP this season and is averaging 7.2 points per game.

THE LAST MEETING

• In a game that saw the Lady Marauders keep their opponents scoreless for the first three minutes and 11 seconds of the game, the Millersville University women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 65-55 victory over the University of the Sciences.

The Marauders (5-0) dominated the first half on defense but late first half fouls helped USP (1-3) remain in the game. The marauders committed 11 first half fouls that allowed the Devils of USP to pull within 10 at half, 24-34. USP converted on 9-of-11 free throws in the first half.

Forward Ashley Romanoski (sr. Lewisberry/Red Land) shot 7-of-15 from the field and ended the game with 20 points in the win. She helped lead on the defensive pressure of the Marauders that caused USP to give up 29 turnovers. Forward Gladine St. Julien was a defensive force for the Lady Marauders nabbing 3 steals and getting 5 of her 8 rebounds on the defensive side of the ball. St.Julien went 4-of-9 from the field and ended the game with 8 points.

Jamika Rehm had nine points and four rebounds as well as two key blocks on defense to aid the marauders defensive pressure.

The University of the Sciences regrouped in the second half but the Marauders defense was too much for them. Colleen Christian was one of three devils in double figures. She ended the game with 12 points including two-of-four key shots from outside the arch. Allison Weiss led the Devils with 13 points; she was a perfect four-of-four form the field as well as 5-of-six from the free throw line.

Erin Chesnavich worked off of early foul trouble and ended the game with 11 points for the Lady Devils. She went five-of-nine from the field including six rebounds. In the end the marauders defense was too much for the Lady Devils as they loose their third game in a row.

THE LAST TIME OUT

• The Millersville University women's basketball team did not shoot the ball well Wednesday evening at the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, Delaware but the Lady Marauders made up for the rough shooting night with another impressive defensive performance in a 69-30 victory over hosting Goldey Beacom.

Millersville (3-0) held an opponent to just 30 points for the second time this season and forced its opponent into 20 or more turnovers for the third straight game by causing 28 on Wednesday. Goldey Beacom (1-1) was held to just 20.5% shooting in the game and connected on only two field goal attempts in the second half. The win extends Millersville's regular season winning streak to 16 games dating back to last season.

The Marauders were led by forward Gladine St. Julien for the second straight game as she connected on all ten of her free throw attempts and finished with 14 points. Freshman Gabrielle Styles delivered the best offensive performance of her young Marauder career hitting on 5-of-7 field goal attempts and finishing with 11 points. She also pulled down a career-high eight rebounds. Forward Raquel Green, making her second start of the season, collected nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Millersville jumped out to a 35-17 lead at halftime despite shooting a dismal 10-of-28 from the field. The Marauders were, however, able to connect on 2-of-6 3-point field goals in the half as guards Jenna Philo and Ashley Moyer each connected from long range.

The second half was much of the same for the Marauders on defense as they held the Lightning to just two field goals on 18 shots. The team finished with 13 steals and three blocks.

Millersville held the advantage in the paint grabbing 46 rebounds to just 24 for GB. A strong effort on the offensive boards gave the Marauders plenty of second chance opportunities. The team grabbed 17 of their own missed shots and are averaging 16.6 offensive rebounds per game this season.

MARAUDER MILESTONES

• Millersville's women's basketball program began in 1918 and since then, it has compiled 686 wins, leaving it just fourteen victories shy of 700 all-time wins. Under Fleig, the Marauders have compiled almost half of those victories with 326.

• The women's team will look to extend its 14-game PSAC Eastern Division winning streak when it travels to West Chester on January 14 for the East opener.

• Last season, coach Fleig won her 300th game at Millersville in the season opener, an 81-38 thrashing of Alderson-Broaddus in the MU Tipoff Classic.

EARLY EXPECTATIONS

• After posting a 24-6 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in the PSAC East a year ago, the Marauders were pegged to finish second by the coaches in the PSAC Preseason Poll.

• Picked to finish first in the Eastern Division in 2008 is the division's newest member, Shippensburg. Shippensburg made the switch to the East after the realignment of the PSAC to accomodate the additions of Gannon and Mercyhurst to the Western Division. Shippensburg qualified for the PSAC playoffs last season as the fourth seed out of the very competitive Western Division. All-American and Western Division Athlete of the Year Lauren Beckley heads a Lady Raider team that has reached the playoffs in 13 of the past 14 seasons.

• West Chester, who qualified for the PSAC playoffs last season as the second seed, finished the season at 9-3 in the division and is picked to finish one spot behind Millersville in third. Kutztown, who won just four games in the division last year, is picked fourth while East Stroudsburg is fifth.

• Forward Gladine St. Julien, an All-PSAC Eastern Divsion First Team selection last season, was named to the 2008 Preseason All-PSAC East Team.

POWER FORWARD

• Forward Gladine St. Julien stepped up in a huge way last season after the loss of PreseasonAll-PSAC selection Ashley Romanoski due to injury. St. Julien led the Marauders in scoring average (12.5) and was second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.

• St. Julien was honored as the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week three times last season.

• St. Julien poured in a career-high 22 points on December 18, in the first of three losses on the season to California (Pa.). She matcher her career high on February 23 in a four-point victory over East Stroudsburg.

• The 6-0 forward scored in double figures in 21 of the team's 30 games last season and managed four double-doubles. St. Julien led the Marauders in scoring 13 times and rebounding 11 times.

ADVANTAGE PUCILLO

• Since Millersville began playing its home games in Pucillo Gymnasium in 1982, the Lady Marauders are an impressive 249-76 at home in 26 seasons. The team has never won less than seven games at Pucillo in a single season and has never had a losing record. Millersville has recorded three or less losses at home in 18 of 26 seasons at Pucillo including a stretch of seven straight seasons from 1996 to 2002.

• Since the 2000-01 season, Millersville holds a .795 winning percentage at Pucillo.

NEW FACES

• Despite returning three full-time starters from last year's team and two more players with five or more starts, the Marauders welcome eight new faces to this year's squad.

• Fleig has recruited seven freshman and a tranfer to fill out the 2008 roster that also includes nine returning players. Chelsea Barsky, a transfer from St. Francis (Pa.), is in her junior season and despite playing mostly at the guard position while at the Division I Institution, the 5-11 transfer will be called upon to do most of her work in the post.

• The incoming class is well balanced with four guards and five forwards. With the addition of 2007-08 red-shirt Emily Balogh, the Marauders will have a very deep bench to spell the starters.

MARCH MADNESS

• Extending the season into March is becoming commonplace at Millersville, and in 2007-08, the Marauders earned their 12th straight appearance in the PSAC Tournament and seventh consecutive appearance in the conference semifinals.

• Despite falling in the PSAC Tournament semifinals to California (Pa.), the Marauders entered the NCAA Division II Tournament as the No. 7 seed in the East Region. Despite leading with under eight minutes to play in the opening-round contest, the Marauders eventually fell for the third time on the season to California (Pa.) to end their season.

• The Marauders have appeared in the NCAA Tournament five times under the direction of Fleig and have posted a 2-5 record in those appearances. Millersville defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 75-71 to advance to the regional semifinal in 1999 and the 2002 team knocked off Belmont Abbey, 84-60 to advance for the only two victories.

BREAKING RECORDS

• In the season-opening 101-30 victory over Columbia Union, the Marauders eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. In that season the Marauders ironically knocked off the same team (Columbia Union) by a score of 102-52.

• The 101-point effort was helped in large part to the 60 first-half points scored by the Marauders which broke the school record of 54 set by the 1992-93 team in a lopsided win over Holy Family.

• The 71-point margin of victory also broke the school record set by the 1992-93 team that defeated Cheyney by a final score of 94-28.

HOT STARTS

• The Marauders have started the season 3-0, marking the second consecutive season the team has started with three straight wins and the ninth time under Fleig the team has started with at least a 2-0 record.

• In each of the eight previous seasons under Fleig the Marauders have started 2-0 or better, the team has never won less than 15 games and has finished at least six games over .500.

ONLY 30??

• Millersville has held its opponent to just 30 points twice this season, a feat never before accomplished by a Marauder team under Fleig. In wednesday's win over Goldey-Beacom, the Marauders held the Lightning to just two second-half field goals.
