Gladine St. Julien showed why she was selected to the Preseason All-PSAC East First Team as she scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Millersville University women's basketball team to an 84-65 victory over visiting Lock Haven Sunday afternoon in the final game of the MU Tipoff Classic.
St. Julien shot 8-of-12 from the field and also connected on 5-of-6 free throw attempts to lead four players in double figures for Millersville. Forward
Jenna Craig picked up her first double-double of the season as she connected on 7-of-9 shots from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe for 17 points to go along with a team-high 12 rebounds. Guard
Ashley Moyer, who dropped in a career-high 18 points last night, chipped in with 16 points on Sunday. Forward
Emily Balogh came off the bench and was the final player to reach double figures as she scored a career-high 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field.
Millersville shot 48% from the field for the game as the team connected on 29-of-61 shots. After missing four of their first five shots of the game and trailing early 8-2, the Marauders sank their next six shots as part of a 15-2 run that helped them grab a lead they would never relinquish. The Bald Eagles cut the lead to two, 23-21, with 8:55 remaining in the first half but that would be as close as they would get as a 9-2 run over the next three minutes put the Marauders in control again.
Millersville carried a 42-31lead into halftime thanks in part to relentless full-court pressure that forced the Eagles into 14 turnovers. Millerville shot 48.4% from the field while Lock Haven managed to hit on just 11-of-28 attempts.
Millersville opened the second half with nine unanswered points as guard
Jenna Philo connected on one of her two triples in the game to start the scoring. Millersville then built its largest lead, 61-37, with 12:19 remaining in the game and never trailed by less than 17 the rest of the way.
Millersville finished with 13 steals and six blocks and forced the visitors into 21 turnovers resulting in 28 points for the 2-0 Marauders. Millersville dominated the paint as they outscored LHU 40-28 down low and held a 45-34 advantage in rebounds.
The Lady Marauders are off until Wednesday when they travel to Wilmington, Delaware for a 6 p.m. match-up with Goldey Beacom.
