Millersville, Pa. – The Bloomsburg Huskies showed why they are the No. 2 ranked team in the country, as they defeated Millersville by a score of 5-0 in a PSAC Eastern Division field hockey showdown Tuesday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.
The Marauders (5-9, 0-7 PSAC East) got off to a good start, as they held Bloomsburg (15-1, 7-0 PSAC East) at bay for the first 15 minutes of the contest, in large part due to a strong effort by freshman goalkeeper
Sara Dickinson, who had a career-high 18 saves in the contest.
However, the relentless pressure of the Huskies finally paid off at the 15:16 mark when Samantha Kropa scored her 18th goal of the season to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. From that point on, it was all Huskies as they kept the play in the Millersville half of the field for most of the contest, holding the Marauders without a shot in the contest.
Bloomsburg held a 20-5 advantage in penalty corners, including one with no time left in the game that resulted in a penalty stroke, which was taken by Division II's all-time leading scorer, Jamie Vanartsdalen. However, Dickinson brushed aside the shot with a stick save.
Millersville will return to action on Thursday when they play their last road game of the season at Shippensburg. Game time is 4 p.m. The Marauders will then close out the season with three straight home contests.
