A two-time All-PSAC East First Team selection, Sue Heckler was a key contributor to two PSAC Championship teams and the first two NCAA Tournament appearances in program history. Heckler’s career spanned from 1983-87, totaling 987 points, averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting 49.9 percent. Her career shooting percentage still ranks second all-time. Heckler also ranks sixth in Marauder history with 611 rebounds—an average of 6.4 per game.
Heckler made an immediate impact as a freshman in 1983-84, playing in 22 games and helping the team to a 19-7 record, a PSAC Championship and Millersville’s first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. The Marauders reached the NCAA East Regional final that season.
As a sophomore, Heckler’s on-court contributions grew significantly as she averaged 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. Her junior season, however, was the breakout campaign. She led the team in rebounding (7.2) and was second in scoring (13.6) while shooting a team-best 52.1 percent from the field. She was named All-PSAC East First Team and Fast Break Honorable Mention All-America Third Team.
During her senior season of 1986-87, Heckler led the team in scoring (14.6) and rebounding (8.2) while shooting 53.9 percent from the field. She garnered All-PSAC East First Team recognition for the second season in a row and was named Fast Break All-America Third Team. Heckler helped power the Marauders to a PSAC Championship, defeating Lock Haven 56-55 in the title game. The Marauders then advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament, where she led the team with nine rebounds against Pitt-Johnstown.
Heckler graduated in 1987 with a degree in sociology.
