During Millersville’s historic run to the only NCAA Division II Championship won by a women’s program, it could be said that Rachel Dickinson Latham didn’t play a position. She was too dominant for one spot on the field. Dickinson Latham played everywhere. Her staunch defense was incomparable. She transitioned her team to the offensive end with athleticism and unmatched stick skills, and on penalty corners, her rocket shots ranked her second on the team in assists and third in points and assists.

Not only was she the best player on the best field hockey team in the nation, the NCAA recognized Dickinson Latham as the top Division II student-athlete, period. Dickinson Latham received the 2015 Honda Division II Athlete of the Year award and represented all of Division II at the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Show broadcast nationally from California.

The awards piled up for Dickinson Latham throughout her career—especially in that banner season of 2014. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) named Dickinson Latham the 2014 Division II Player of the Year, and Synapse Sports and the PSAC both voted her Defensive Player of the Year. Dickinson Latham is one of only two three-time All-Americans and the only three-time first-team All-America selection in program history. She is one of just three Marauders to be named All-PSAC four times. As a freshman in 2011, Dickinson Latham was named both the PSAC and Synapse Sports National Freshman of the Year.

Dickinson Latham truly impacted the game in every way. Despite playing center back on defense, she totaled 20 goals and 22 assists to rank 12th at Millersville in career points. At the same time, she helped Millersville lead Division II in shutouts and goals-against average in 2013 and 2014.

Dickinson Latham’s four years at Millersville coincided with a transformative era in Millersville field hockey. When she arrived at Millersville in 2011, the team had gone 12 years without a winning record. As a sophomore team captain in 2012, Dickinson Latham helped an upstart Marauders team to a 14-7 record and a surprising PSAC runner-up finish. In her junior year, the Marauders went 19-3 to set a school record for wins, won their first PSAC Championship since 1986 and reached the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time. In 2014, she helped write the happiest of endings to her storybook career when she assisted on the only goal scored in the 1-0 NCAA Championship victory. Her play in Millersville’s three NCAA Tournament wins was recognized with a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Dickinson Latham graduated with a degree in business administration in 2015. She was a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete. She married Tim Latham in 2016.
