One of just four players in program history be named the PSAC East Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Year, Michelle Kratz Lehman starred at outside hitter for three PSAC Eastern Division Championship teams.
Kratz Lehman remains one of just four players in program history to be named All-PSAC East First Team three times, scoring the honor in 1996, 1997 and 1998. She was a freshman contributor on the only team (1995) in Millersville history to win a PSAC Tournament championship, and she led the Marauders to a perfect 10-0 PSAC East record as a senior. The Marauders went 34-6 in PSAC East play with Kratz Lehman on the team.
Kratz Lehman finished her Millersville career third in program history in career kills with 1,101 and still ranks fifth in that category. Her .206 hitting percentage also ranks sixth all-time. Not only was Kratz Lehman the team’s leader on the attack, she was also an outstanding defensive player, totaling 862 career digs. Kratz Lehman led the Marauders in both kills and digs in 1997 and 1998. Three times she recorded over 300 kills in a season, and her 398 kills in 1997 is tied for second most at Millersville.
As a junior in 1997, Kratz Lehman led the Marauders to a PSAC East title and PSAC Tournament bid by setting career highs in kills and digs while also setting a single-season school record with 64 service aces. The following season, while leading the Marauders to a second consecutive PSAC East title, Kratz Lehman totaled 314 kills on an efficient .267 hitting percentage, tallied a team-high 283 digs and ranked second on the team with 41 kills. She was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year and AVCA All-Atlantic Region at season’s end.
Kratz Lehman completed her bachelor’s degree in education in 1999 and has served 10 years as a math teacher at Mathom House, a residential treatment facility for incarcerated youth. Michelle resides with her husband, Brett, and her four children: Aaron, Hannah, Aubrey and Caleb.
