Hall of Fame
Millersville University men’s basketball boasts a long and storied history of tradition, success and outstanding players. The case can be made that Charlie Parker is the best of them all. Only the third four-time All-PSAC East First Team selection in program history, Parker was a do-it-all guard for the Marauders and led the team to a PSAC Championship in 2006-07 and two NCAA Regional final appearances.
Parker capped his brilliant four-year career second on Millersville’s all-time scoring list with 1,949 points. But he wasn’t just a scorer. His 454 assists rank fourth and his 288 career steals rank second. He was the 2005 PSAC East Freshman of the Year and he followed that accolade with back-to-back PSAC East Player of the Year awards in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Parker is one of only four players in Millersville history to win the award and the only player to win it twice. Additionally, Parker a two-time NABC All-East Region First Team pick and was an NABC All-American in 2008.
His individual accomplishments are near impossible to match, but most importantly, he made his teammates better. He was a part of three 20-win seasons and played in two PSAC Championship games. As a rookie in 2004-05, Parker led the Marauders to a 22-8 overall record, a spot in the conference championship game and the NCAA Tournament. He led the team in scoring (14.3) and steals (54), and averaged nearly three assists per game.
Parker upped his scoring output to 17.8 points per game as a sophomore and increased his rebounding totals to 6.0, which ranked second on the team. The team experienced an up-and-down season but it more than made up for it in 2006-07. Parker’s junior season was one for the ages. His Marauders went 28-5, setting a school record for wins in a season. The Marauders won the PSAC Championship by defeating Cheyney 79-68. Parker led the team in scoring (19) and rebounding (8) in the championship game. Parker and the Marauders won two NCAA Tournament games, advancing to the “Sweet 16." He averaged nearly 17 points per game in the tournament and registered a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in the regional title game against eventual national champion Barton. His 147 assists rank ninth-most all-time, and his 3.1 steals per game rank second all-time.
As a senior, Parker led the Marauders back to the regional championship game by averaging 16.1 points, 4.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. He was named PSAC East Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and represented the Marauders as the MVP of the NABC Division II All-Star Game in Springfield, Mass.
Parker’s brilliant basketball career continued into the professional ranks. He played in the NBA D-League for the Los Angeles D-Fenders, averaging 6.8 points per game in 32 games in 2008-09. Parker took his talents to Iceland and Denmark from 2011-2013, winning the Icelandic Express Cup Championship and league MVP trophy in 2012. His Danish League Cup team won the championship in 2013.
Parker has stayed close to Millersville in recent years, serving as an assistant coach under Fred Thompson and also owning and operating Crunchtime Hoops L.L.C.
