Induction Speech
Millersville men’s golf under Scott Vandegrift has a long history of excellence, but Chad Schulze has no peer. The 1999-00 PSAC Player of the Year and Millersville’s only regional champion, Schulze is the first men’s golfer inducted into the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame.
The distinction of the first men’s golfer in the hall of fame is well deserved for the 2003 graduate. Schulze was Vandegrift’s ace for three seasons, earning All-PSAC honors in the 1998-99, 1999-00 and 2000-01 seasons. His arrival at Millersville for the 1998-99 season helped the Marauders to the PSAC Championship—the first in school history. It was his par putt in the final group on the final hole of the tournament that clinched the conference title for the Marauders. Schulze finished his first PSAC Championship at 5-over-par and in third place just two strokes off the lead.
At the 2000 PSAC Championship, Schulze fired an opening round 68 at Bent Creek Country Club in Lancaster and went on to finish as the tournament’s runner-up. He placed fifth as a senior.
In his senior season of 2000-01, Schulze helped the Marauders qualify for the NCAA Division II North Regional for the first time in program history. Golfing on the biggest stage of his career, he took medalist honors at the regional and remains the only golfer in the program’s history to win the tournament.
Sporting a Millersville record 75.2 career scoring average, Schulze’s teams won 13 tournaments in his career. He is the only golfer in school history to post a scoring average under 76 for three consecutive seasons.
Schulze is now a PGA Professional at Greystone Golf Course in Baltimore, Md.
