Carmen Lex ranks among the finest quarterbacks to ever wear the Millersville Black and Gold. In fact, he is one of only two Marauder gridders whose jersey (No. 12) was retired officially by the University.

Selected as both an NCAA Division III Second Team and NAIA Small College (honorable mention) All-American in 1977, Lex guided the Marauder gridders to their first PSAC Eastern Division title and their first appearance in the conference's "State Game". He excelled in that memorable 25-24 "State Game" loss to Clarion when he completed over 60 percent of his passes. Only a last-second Clarion field goal denied Millersville victory in that epic contest.

A two-time MU Most Valuable Player (1975 and 1977), Lex was never more brilliant than in his senior year. He completed 55 percent of his tosses for 1,629 yards and 16 touchdowns, and also ran for 351 yards. His passing and total offense marks in '77 established club records that stood for more than a decade.

The Swedesboro, N.J. product twice earned All-ECAC honors and was a three-time All-PSAC choice (first team in '77 and second team in '75 and '76).

Lex's name appears prominently in the Millersville football record book under career categories. He ranks second in passing (4,489 yards), total offense (5,539 yards) and completion percentage (.510), and is third all-time in touchdown passes (37) and yards-per-game average. In his three years as the Marauder's starting quarterback, he guided the 'Ville to a 20-7 record.

He skippered the Marauders' 17-12 win at West Chester in 1975--historic because it marked Millersville's first triumph in 42 tries over the nemesis Golden Rams and snapped a "jinx" dating to 1921.

In 1985, Lex was cited by the Millersville football program as an Alumni Award recipient for outstanding gridiron achievement and continuing commitment to excellence.

In his current vocation, Lex is employed as an electrician in the Penn-Delco (N.J.) School District.
