Millersville

Drew Folmar

Drew Folmar ’01, a legendary quarterback and hall of fame inductee at Millersville University, returned to his alma mater as the program’s head coach for the 2026 season.

After his stellar playing career guiding Millersville to a PSAC East title and NCAA Playoff appearance, he embarked on a successful and record-setting coaching career that includes stops at every level, including 12 years at the Division I FCS level, coordinating offenses for Bucknell, Elon and Lehigh. Folmar coached three different teams to six NCAA playoff appearances, recruited and developed 78 all-conference selections and three conference offensive athletes of the year.

Folmar most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Bucknell after eight seasons and three NCAA Playoff appearances at Elon. There, Folmar progressed to the title of associate head coach. Folmar led Lehigh’s offense from 2014-16, guiding the program to a Patriot League Championship with the conference’s top offense in 2016. Before leaping to the Division I level, Folmar helped establish Kutztown as a power in the PSAC. He coordinated the offense from 2009-2012, coaching 17 All-PSAC East performers and a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist while winning the 2011 PSAC Championship and reaching back-to-back NCAA Playoff appearances. He served the 2013 season as head coach.

COACHING CAREER
Folmar built his career from the ground level, starting as a student assistant quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Millersville before working at the United States Merchant Marine Academy and retuning to Millersville as the wide receivers coach from 2003-2008. After one season as the offensive coordinator at New Haven, Folmar returned to Pennsylvania as the offensive coordinator, and quickly established himself as one of the top offensive coaches in the region. Kutztown had never produced more than seven wins in a season, but with Folmar recruiting and developing two-time PSAC East Athlete of the Year Kevin Morton, Kutztown won the PSAC Championship in 2011 and reached the NCAA Playoffs twice. He inherited a unit that ranked 96th nationally in scoring and 86th in total offense, and his teams never ranked lower than 12th in the nation in scoring. His offense led the PSAC in scoring in 2010, 2011, and ranked second in 2012 while averaging 44.6 points per game.

After a season as the head coach at Kutztown, Folmar earned a promotion to Division I where he immediately turned Lehigh into one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Lehigh led the Patriot League in offense in back-to-back seasons and averaged better than 460 yards per game in both 2015 and 2016. His 2016 offense averaged 38.8 points per game while ranking in the nation’s top 10 in passing, passing efficiency, and third down conversion rate. That team climbed into the national rankings, went undefeated in the Patriot League, earned a national ranking and reached the NCAA Playoffs. His quarterback was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year.

Folmar was then hired by Curt Cignetti to rebuild the program at Elon. In short order, Folmar helped a program that had gone 17-51 before his arrival into a winner. Over the next seven full fall seasons, Elon went 37-18 with postseason appearances in 2017, 2018 and 2022. Folmar coached the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year in 2017 and 2018, helped Davis Cheek to become a Jerry Rice Award finalist in 2017, and also coached a 2021 Walter Payton Award finalist. A total of 18 Elon players earned Colonial Athletic Association honors under Folmar’s tutelage. Folmar rose to the level of Elon’s associate head coach.

In 2025, Folmar led the offense at Bucknell University, producing a trio of All-Patriot League performers and working with record-setting quarterback Ralph Rucker IV.

PLAYING CAREER
Folmar played his career at Millersville under College Football Hall of Fame coach Dr. Gene A. Carpenter, winning 30 games as a four-year starter, helping Millersville to the NCAA Playoffs in 1999, a PSAC East title in 1998 and going 20-4 against the PSAC East. He was a four-time All-PSAC East selection with three first team honors, the 1997 PSAC East Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. Folmar set 17 school records and is still Millersville’s single-season and career leader for passing yards, completions, and touchdowns. He is the only Marauder to throw 30 touchdown passes in a season, and he accomplished the feat in both 1998 and 1999. Folmar received induction into the Millersville University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

Folmar graduated with a degree in elementary education in 2001. His wife, Heather, played softball for the Marauders and also graduated from Millersville. The couple have five children: MacQuarrie, Tessa, Gavin, Blake and Casen.
