Dr. Sharon Barley returned to her alma mater to start her first season as the assistant coach for Millersville’s men’s and women’s golf teams.
Barley was a multisport athlete at Millersville, competing on the track, softball, and archery teams, and even won the gold medal in archery in the 1986 Olympic Festival Games. Barley’s diverse athletics background has helped strengthen her mental game when it comes to approaching golf, teaching golfers of all ages prior to joining Millersville’s coaching staff. After continuing with her studies following her graduation from Millersville in 1982 by attending Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary, Barley launched One Plane Golf Fix, LLC., an independent golf instruction business that served regional and national clients.
Barley said she credits her background in South Vietnamese kung fu in helping her coach the “mental game” in golf, helping her clients who compete at a high level.
“I found my greatest joy in inspiring and coaching young people to be their best self in whatever sport they played or academic dreams they aspired to achieve.”
In 2015, she earned her Level III Golf Teaching Certification through the United States Golf Teaching Federation (USGTF) in Princeton, NJ. She finished 1st in the USGTF Northeast Region Professional Golfers Championship in the Women’s division in 2022. She was highlighted in the USGTF National Newsletter as teacher of the month in 2019.
