Long-time Millersville assistant coach Jim Shiffer has returned to the football program in 2011 and is entering his second consecutive season on staff in 2012. He previously served as the team's offensive line coach from 1994-2001.
Shiffer, a resident of Bird in Hand, Pa., brings a tremendous knowledge of the Division II level, especially in the PSAC where he coached at three schools for 18 seasons.
Most recently, Shiffer was the offensive line coach at Thaddeus Stevens College, developing five Seaboard Conference First Team selections and helping the team to a conference title in 2010.
Shiffer's coaching career began at Millersville. He served as a graduate assistant under the legendary Dr. Gene Carpenter from 1989-92 and earned his master's of education degree before coaching tight ends and the offensive line at Pittsburgh in 1993-94. Shiffer returned to Millersville in 1994 as the recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach. During that time, he was a part of three PSAC East Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. His unit totaled 10 All-PSAC East honors.
In 2002, Shiffer took over the offensive line and recruiting coordinator responsibilities at Kutztown and worked with now-Millersville wide receivers coach Dave Keeney. In 2004, Shiffer was hired as the head coach at Mansfield--his alma mater--and he remained in that position until 2006. As the head coach, Shiffer developed 16 All-PSAC East players and two Academic All-Americans.
Shiffer was a three-year letterwinner at Mansfield and team captain in 1987. He also starred at nearby Conestoga Valley High School.
