BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -Â The Millersville University soccer team defeated Bloomsburg 1-0 on Saturday. The Marauders protected the shutout late, surviving a stretch of Bloomsburg attacking pressure without conceding.
Cheyenne Forte's unassisted goal gave Millersville all the scoring it needed, and Megan Taltavull backed it with a four-save shutout. Bloomsburg finished with a 13-9 edge in shots, but the Marauders put six attempts on frame to Bloomsburg's four and protected the lead through a late stretch in which Bloomsburg generated five shots and three corner kicks without scoring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marauders generated the first stretch of chances in the first half, with Brook Balliet putting two shots toward goal and Aubrey Strohecker forcing a save early. Taltavull answered Bloomsburg's push with a pair of first-half saves, while 'Ville also saw a late Lily-May Jackson shot saved. The half ended without a goal.
Forte put the Marauders in front 1-0 early in the second half. 'Ville added saved shots from Balliet and Strohecker, then handled Bloomsburg's late pressure, including Taltavull's save on Cassidey Snyder. The Marauders kept Bloomsburg off the board through the final whistle to finish the 1-0 win.
"It was a very tough game. Lots of 50/50s and battles all over the field." said head coach Matt Procopio. "They competed well and kept battling. Happy we were able to find the back of the net. We have to recover and get ready for another critical game to finish the season."
