Marauders shut out Bloomsburg for 1-0 victory

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team secured a hard-fought victory Wednesday night, defeating Bloomsburg, 1-0.
Millersville applied offensive pressure early, with Ashlyn Calabria and Aubrey Strohecker each recording shots in the opening minutes.
Bloomsburg created opportunities of its own, but freshman goalkeeper Megan Taltavull kept the Huskies off the scoreboard. Taltavull finished the match with two saves to record her second shutout of the season.
The Marauders nearly broke through in the 29th minute when Calabria found an open lane toward the goal, but a strong defensive save by Bloomsburg kept the match scoreless. Millersville continued to pressure the Huskies before earning a penalty kick after Bloomsburg was called for a handball inside the box. Strohecker stepped up and converted the opportunity to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead.
Millersville's defense remained strong throughout the second half, limiting Bloomsburg's offensive opportunities. The Huskies increased their pressure in the final 10 minutes, but Millersville's defense held firm. The Marauders outshot Bloomsburg 5-2 during the closing minutes and successfully protected their lead to secure the victory.
"It was a positive performance all around." said head coach Matt Procopio. "Offensively we created good chances. Defensively we did a great job dealing with their pressure. The final minutes were challenging to manage but again did well."
With the win Millersville improves to 1-1 in PSAC East play and returns to action Saturday when it travels to Mansfield.
