'Ville finishes third in home invitational

KUTZTOWN, PA. — The Marauders finish third at the Millersville Women's Fall Classic, posting a two-round total of 77-over par and two personal best 36-hole performances.
The two-day tournament carried special meaning for Millersville as the team honored former teammate Sydney Barnes, who passed away last year.
"It was an emotional 2 days where we honored our former teammate Sydney Barnes who passed away last year," head coach Matt Shur said. "Sydney will be remembered forever and will always be a part of the Millersville Golf Program."
Sabrina Swope led the Marauders with a fifth-place finish at 14-over par, while Anabelle McGowan tied for 10th at 17-over. Both golfers recorded 36-hole personal bests, with Shur praising their ability to play "consistent, smart, and focused golf" throughout the tournament.
Erica Gerner tied for 13th at 19-over par, followed by Rachel Schuda in 25th at 33-over and Ashden Stitt in 27th at 35-over.
"Despite everything, like they always do, they found ways to keep great attitudes throughout both days," Shur said. "I am so proud of them for achieving these goals at our home event."
Millersville also had two independent golfers compete in the tournament. Addison Salais finished 38th at 46-over par, while Brooke Arhotakis placed 47th at 89-over.
Moving forward, Shur said the team's focus is "damage control" after the Marauders gave away too many strokes on a handful of holes. Finding ways to turn potential double bogeys into bogeys will be important as Millersville looks to build on its performance.
"Going into next week, we are excited for the opportunity to showcase our skills again!"
Milersville is back to work next Monday and Tuesday as they complete in the West Chester Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa.
