Millersville drops conference opener to East Stroudsburg, 2-1

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team fell short to East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon in the first conference game of the season. The Marauders generated plenty of offensive pressure but were unable to capitalize on the scoreboard, falling 2-1.
Millersville opened the game in the attacking end 16 seconds in when Aubrey Strohecker looked to score in back-to-back games, but her shot was stopped by the Warriors' goalkeeper. Ashlyn Calabria followed with a shot of her own 11 minutes later, but it was saved by the Warriors' goalkeeper again.
East Stroudsburg marched down the field a minute later and found the back of the net with its first shot of the day.
The Marauders tried to respond, putting five shots on goal, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities heading into halftime.
The second half started quietly from both sides, but the Warriors struck again at the 55-minute mark to push their lead to two goals.
Millersville continued to search for a response in the second half, putting multiple shots on goal without finding the back of the net. Sara Edwards finally came through for the Marauders with 30 seconds remaining, scoring off assists from Maia Iannuzzi and Calabria. Time ultimately ran out, however, as the Marauders dropped their first conference game to the Warriors.
"We had plenty of chances and opportunities to find a result," said head coach Matt Procopio. "We need to be able to finish the opportunities we got. The adjustment is finishing the chances you had. We had 22 shots according to their stats. I think it was more. They had far less but had two goals."
