Few have displayed the level of support, involvement, and generosity toward Millersville University Athletics and its student-athletes as Judy Anttonen. For decades, Anttonen has made a positive impact in the Millersville community, and she has been named the hall of fame’s Champion of Athletics for her selfless service.
Millersville fans recognize Anttonen as a fixture in Pucillo Gymnasium as she has faithfully served as a scoreboard operator at volleyball and basketball events for more than 30 years. Behind the scenes, Anttonen and her late husband, Ralph “Doc Roc” Anttonen, impacted the lives of countless student-athletes by gifting more than $800,000 to the University.
Anttonen’s gifts assisted in the renovation and renaming of the gymnasium lobby and natatorium. With widespread generosity, she helped establish eight scholarship endowments for cross country, men's basketball, baseball, softball, field hockey, swimming, men's and women's golf and volleyball.
Anttonen’s presence in the community also included a show on the University’s radio station for 40 years, and she served as co-director of the Millersville Mile race for 25 years. She and Ralph were honored as the grand marshals of Millersville’s Homecoming parade and served as PIAA cross country officials for many years. Anttonen is a retired educator but has stayed active as an athlete, successfully competing in master’s swimming events and at the National Senior Games while also running in 5K races. Judy is the mother of two children, Eric and Karen, and the grandmother of nine grandchildren: Evan, Elise, Emma, Ethan, Isaac, Elijah, Isaiah, Sarah and Miriam.
