
Coach Brett Vana selected to participate in Next Generation Institute

ATLANTA, Ga. - Millersville University women's basketball assistant coach Brett Vana is one of just 34 individuals in the country and one of two from the Division II ranks selected to participate in the 2026 WBCA Next Generation Institute.
The Next Generation Institute is a high-level education program for experienced assistant coaches who aspire to become collegiate head coaches. It is in its fourth year as a program and focuses on CEO attributes needed to lead a program and be a problem-solver in today's ever-changing landscape of higher education and the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics. It is held in coordination with the WBCA Convention in Phoenix and discusses basketball X's and O's as well as business, communications, marketing and management for programs.
Vana has been an assistant coach at the Division I, II and III levels as well as a junior college head coach where he was named the NJCAA National Head Coach of the Year. He is in his third season as Millersville's top assistant, and has helped the team to the postseason in each of the first two. Currently, Vana has helped the Marauders to a 12-9 record, and the team has hit its stride, winning eight of 10 since Jan. 7.
To be eligible for the Next Generation Institute, candidates must by a WBCA member with five years experience and nominated by a current WBCA member.
