MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville women's soccer opened PSAC play with a 1–1 draw against East Stroudsburg.
The opening half was a back-and-forth battle between Millersville and East Stroudsburg. The Marauders were shown a yellow card early when Ella Briggs interfered with an East Stroudsburg free kick. The Warriors were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. However, both teams continued to issue shots with none falling. Millersville goalkeeper Emma Moss recorded three saves in the first half to keep the game level.
With the score tied at 0–0 entering the second half, either side had the chance to seize momentum. Nikki Tonello put the first shot on goal for Millersville, but the attempt was stopped by the East Stroudsburg keeper. Shortly after, the Marauders earned a corner kick that resulted in the opening goal. Junior Sara Edwards delivered a cross that set up sophomore forward Maia Iannuzzi, who struck the ball into the back of the net.
Millersville held the 1–0 advantage for much of the second half. Despite continued pressure from East Stroudsburg, the Marauders' defense and Moss kept the Warriors scoreless. That changed in the 86th minute when East Stroudsburg converted a free kick into the top of the net to even the match. Millersville was unable to respond as the game ended in a 1–1 draw.
With this result, Millersville moves to 0-1-1 on the season. The Marauders return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. when they travel to Kutztown for their second PSAC matchup.
