SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The momentum built from Wednesday's win over West Chester carried into Saturday as the Millersville women's soccer team scored a 2-0 win over homestanding Shippensburg for its second consecutive win.
Behind goalkeeper Sabrina Zimmerman's four saves, Millersville registered its first shutout since Oct. 12, 2024. The Marauders were out-shot 14-11 but made the most of their chances with Lia Francis scoring her first two goals of the season.
In the 44th minute, a handball gave Millersville a free kick 30 yards from the goal. Melanie Love lofted the kick into the center of the box, where a hustling Lia Francis powered through two Shippensburg defenders, reached her right foot under the ball, and popped it over Shippensburg keeper Kirstin Brown.
The Marauders kept Shippensburg off the board until Francis added some insurance in the 85th minute. On a rush toward the Shippensburg net, Millersville worked some well-placed passes between Isabel Coy and Aubrey Strohecker before a sprinting Francis finished low, just inside the left post.
The win improved Millersville to 7-2-3 against the Raiders since 2018. More importantly, it evened the Marauders' PSAC record at 2-2-1. Millersville looks to win three in a row for the first time since 2021 when they travel to Lock Haven on Sept. 24.

- What are some key factors that can continue to this momentum going into next week? "One game at a time for us. We need to continue to put things together. New week next week with new challenges. We must continue to work on improving on the time simple things. If we can the simple things extraordinarioly well we will find ourselves in a position to be successful."
