Shehan named Coach of the Year for seventh time; Six Marauders named All-PSAC East

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Jon Shehan was named the PSAC East Coach of the Year for the seventh time, Bren Taylor became one of two Millersville Marauders to be named All-PSAC East First Team four times, and six total Marauders were recognized when the PSAC's coaches released their year-end awards Tuesday.

Taylor was joined on the first team by Matthew Williams (utility) and Amani Jones (shortstop). Outfielder Jeff Sabater and starting pitchers Connor Blantz and Conor Cook earned second team honors.

Millersville stormed through the PSAC East with a 24-4 record, winning every series and coming within one win of the program record for division wins in a season. Shehan's club won its 11th PSAC East title since he took over the program in 2008. It was also the team's fifth in the last six seasons. Shehan, who won his 600th career game earlier in the season, has more coach of the year trophies than any coach in the history of the Eastern Division. Only California's Mike Conte, who won his first PSAC West Coach of the Year honor in 1997 and his ninth this season, and Slippery Rock's Jeff Messer, who has won eight since 1995, have won more coach of the year awards in the PSAC.

Taylor made history during the regular season, setting the PSAC's career record for hits and runs. The hit record belonged to Millersville's Chas McCormick '17, and that's who Taylor joined as the only four-time first team selections in program history. Taylor hit .363 with a .472 on-base percentage in the regular season and hit .381 against the PSAC East.

Williams, a junior who set the Millersville career home runs record last weekend, earned the first postseason honor of his career. He is hitting .323 with a team-leading 1.059 OPS, ranking third in the conference in RBIs with 52 and fourth in home runs with 13. Williams split time at DH and first base and also logged 11 2/3 innings in eight relief appearances, going 2-0 with a save.

Jones made it four first team selections since 2019 for Millersville shortstops. He enters the postseason hitting .321 with four homers and 40 RBIs, but he did serious damage against the PSAC East, slashing .354/.433/.573 with 11 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs in 28 division games.

Sabater, a first team pick in 2024, led the PSAC in stolen bases for a second consecutive season (34) while also leading the conference with 57 runs scored--seven more than any other player. Sabater leads the Marauders with a .505 OBP and is tied for the team lead in hitting at .368.

Cook is now a two-time All-PSAC East selection while Blantz earned the honor in his first season at Millersville. The duo extended Millersville's streak of seasons with an All-PSAC East starting pitcher to 14. Cook owns an 8-1 record overall, and he went 5-0 with a 3.47 ERA and two complete games in seven PSAC East starts. Blantz ranks second in the PSAC in strikeouts (85), fourth in batting average against (.213) and 10th in innings pitched (58.0).

Millersville is the host of the PSAC Tournament for the first time. Action begins on Wednesday, May 7 at 9:30 a.m. Millersville plays PSAC West No. 4 seed Slippery Rock at 8 p.m.
