MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Sarah Hessler's dominant start to the outdoor season has earned her the honor of PSAC Field Athlete of the Week after a second-straight weekend of winning three throws events and hitting an NCAA mark as well.
Hessler showed out at the Marauders' first of two home meets this season, taking the crown in the discus throw, hammer throw, and shot put at the Millersville Metrics. The headline of the meet was her performance in the discus throw, hitting a mark of 152-1, putting her in 20th place in Division II. That is the second NCAA provisional mark of the season for Hessler, who is 25th in the country in the hammer throw after recording a distance of 174-0 at the Towson Invite. Hessler's dominant weekend also included event wins in the hammer throw and shot put, with marks of 171-4 and 42-9 3/4, respectively. The junior's three wins helped lead the Marauders to finishing in first place at the Metrics, setting a meet record with 271 team points.
Hessler's accolades only included indoor season achievements until now. She is coming off a strong indoor season in which she earned All-PSAC and USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honors in the shot put. Currently, Hessler is first in the conference in the discus throw, second in hammer throw, and third in shot put.
Hessler and the Marauders will look to continue their excellent start to the spring season in two meets this week, competing at the Messiah Multi and Invite first and ending with the Bucknell Bison Invite. They'll start at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 Dillsburg, Pa., and resume competition at noon the following day.
