ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville has won five in a row and closes the 2025 calendar year with back-to-back home games inside Pucillo Gymnasium where the Marauders are 4-1 and averaging 85.0 points per game with a plus-14.0 scoring margin. Millersville has started PSAC play 2-0 for the first time since 2022-23, and they step out of PSAC play for a game against Bowie State Friday before hosting No. 15 Gannon on Sunday. The Marauders already have a win over nationally ranked Dominican and own the only win over now 10-1 Virginia Union. Bowie State enters Friday’s tilt 3-9 overall and 1-3 on the road. Friday is Bowie State’s sixth game against a PSAC team this season. The Bulldogs are 0-5 against PSAC foes. Gannon, the back-to-back PSAC champs, are 8-1 with its lone loss coming on Nov. 26 on a neutral court against Lake Superior State. The Golden Knights is coming off a 106-48 win over Kutztown.

GAME STORYLINES

  • Gannon is coming off a record-setting weekend. After forcing 38 turnovers against Saginaw Valley State, it forced 48 turnovers against Kutztown. The Golden Knights also hoisted up a school record 45 3-pointers against Kutztown. The 25 steals were one shy of a school record set in 1979-80. Unsurpisingly, Gannon leads the nation in turnovers forced per game (26.3), third in steals (14.7) and second in 3-point attempts per game (34.7). Gannon isn’t particularly efficient on offense, Despite ranking third nationally in scoring offense (97.9), they rank 11th in the PSAC in field goal percentage and 15th out of 17 teams in 3-point shooting. Gannon offsets the inefficiency with its pace and rebounding, pulling down 19.3 offensive boards per game.
  • In play style, Bowie State stands in stark contrast to Gannon. The Bulldogs average 69.3 points per game, average just 20 3-pointer attempts per game (.289) and are -6.6 in rebounding margin. Joseph Allen made his season debut on Dec. 15 and scored 17 points in 25 minutes. Jaiden McGhee has four 20-point games, including 29 against Shippensburg.
  • Millersville boasts one of the most efficient offenses in the PSAC, ranking second in field goal percentage (.506) and first in free throw percentage (.797). The Marauders have shot better than 50% from the field in half of their games. Since the double-overtime loss at Wilmington, the Marauders have committed just 12 turnovers per game, and they’ve finished with more assists than turnovers in five of eight games.
  • Day Waters’ return to Millersville could not have gone much better. The senior leads the PSAC in scoring average (21.3) and has scored 20 or more points in six of eight games. Including last season at Slippery Rock, Waters has scored double-figures in 19 consecutive games. He ranks fourth in the PSAC in 3-point shooting and eighth in free throw shooting. He is shooting 51.9% on 2-point shots.
  • Cesar Tchilombo has taken his game to a new level since recording his first career double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds against Wilson. He has three double-doubles in the last four games, averaging 13.3 points and 11.8 rebounds with four blocks in the last two games. He’s made 12 of 13 shots in the last three games. He ranks fourth in the PSAC in blocks (1.3) and sixth in rebounding (8.4). His 15 rebounds at Edinboro were the most by a Marauder since Justin Nwosu's 19 against Shippensburg in 2022.
  • Aamir Hurst won the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week award on Dec. 8 and he is quickly turning into a defensive player of the year candidate. Even as a guard, Hurst averages a block per game, ranking eighth in the PSAC. He also averages 1.9 steals per game. He and Cal’s Bryson Lucas are the only PSAC players with at least 1.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Bowie State has won four of the last five games against Millersville dating back to 2014-15. Casey Stitzel is 1-1 against the Bulldogs with a home win in 2022-23 and a road loss in 2023-24. Millersville is no stranger to Gannon’s press. The teams clashed in last season’s PSAC Semifinal with Gannon rallying from a 20-point deficit with 13 minutes remaining to edge the Marauders 89-87 in overtime. Gannon made 14 of its final 18 shots in regulation to tie the game after the Marauders held Gannon to 31% shooting in the first half. Sunday marks the fifth meeting in the last four seasons. Gannon has won the last two, but Millersville dealt Gannon its first loss of the 2023-24 season at home behind 34 points from Matt Dade. Later that season, Gannon knocked the Marauders out in the PSAC Semifinals by shooting 61% in home game. Millersville has won the last three meetings inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
