MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Erica Gerner's runner-up finish helped Millersville to second place at the 18-hole Alvernia Invitational played at LedgeRock Golf Club on Tuesday.
It was the best placement of Gerner's young career as she shot a 7-over-par 79. As a team, Millersville finished ahead of a pair of PSAC teams (Seton Hill and California) and finished 13 shots behind Catholic, which took first place with a 42-over score.
Gerner birdied the par-3 second hole and the par-3 10th. Her stretch of four consecutive pars from the 14th through the 17th helped her to a 3-over 39 on the back nine.
Ashden Stitt also finished in the top 10, shooting an 85 and tying for fifth. The highlight of her round was a birdie on the par-5 13th.
Sabrina Swope's 88 put her in a tie for 11th.
Sydney Barnes tied for 19th with a 91, and
Lex Pfeufer tied for 26th with a 95.
Millersville plays its third event of the week on Oct. 9 at the Husky Invitational.
