BELLE VERNON, Pa. - The Millersville women's golf team rallied from a four-shot deficit, chased down Saint Anselm, and took first place at the 36-hole Vulcan Invitational.
The win was the team's first of the season and seventh in the last 13 tournaments dating back to the 2024-25 season. It took a second-round charge to get the win on Tuesday at Cedarbrook Golf Course. The Marauders fired the lowest round of the tournament (38-over), improving their score by six shots and finishing at 82-over, two shots in front of Saint Anselm.
Saint Anselm slipped from Monday's 40-over with a 44-over on Tuesday, but higher scores were the norm for every team in the field except Millersville. Millersville was the only team to shoot lower in the second round. Millersville also topped California, Davis & Elkins and Shepherd.
Freshman
Erica Gerner paced Millersville, shooting 6-over-par 78 in back-to-back rounds for a third-place individual finish. Both rounds were career lows for Gerner, and she captured her first career top-10 finish. On Tuesday, she shot 39 on the front and back nines, dropping in birdies on the par-4 12th and par-4 16th. She also birdied the 13th and 15th holes on Monday, posting a 37 on the back nine.
Lex Pfeufer scored her first top-10 finish of the season by placing eighth. She followed a first-round 82 with an 81 in the second round.
Ashden Stitt's 23-over-par landed her a second top-10 finish in three events.
Sabrina Swope took 11th place at 24 over for the tournament. Her 81 on Tuesday included 11 pars with six in a row between the eighth and 13th holes.
Sydney Barnes placed 14th and
Anabelle McGowan placed 17th in the 32-golfer field.
The Marauders' busy fall schedule continues on Oct. 5-6 at the Kutztown Invitational hosted at Moselem Springs Golf Club.
