EDINBORO, Pa. - Junior
Bri Pollock and freshman
Kira Chebishev finished in the top 20 for All-PSAC honors, leading Millersville cross country to an eighth-place finish at Saturday's PSAC Championship.
It was Millersville's third consecutive season with two top-20 finishers and the first time since 2006-10 that Millersville has finished in the top eight three seasons in a row. Pollock is now one of 12 Marauders since 1985 with two All-PSAC finishes. Pollock is the first Millersville freshman since Shannon Cruz in 2013 to finish in the top 20.
"Bri had a solid day," said Young. "I think she is going to be really ready for the regionals at Lock Haven. Kira had a strong race and really moved up in the second half. It was great patience from a freshman."
With the weather chilly and ground wet, Pollock ran a 23:16.4 for 16th place. Chebishev ran a 23:20.8 for 18th.
"We hoped for a bit higher finish but the gaps were a bit too wide after our first two runners," said Millersville head coach
Andy Young. "The team probably ran a bit too conservatively in the first mile to really challenge. We did a good job moving up but started a bit too far back today."
Millersville's No. 3 runner was senior
Breia Mayes, who placed 57th with a time of 24:24.1 in her fourth PSAC Championship run.
Olivia Sunderland, who was questionable to run early in the week because of injuries, battled for a 60th-place finish, running a time of 24:27.4.
Emilea Alleman rounded out Millersville's scoring, running a time of 24:45.4 for 70th.
East Stroudsburg edged Edinboro for the team championship with Gannon's Emily Bowers finishing as the top individual.
The Marauders will be back in action on Nov. 8 at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships.
