MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University women's volleyball team fell to the West Chester University Golden Rams in straight sets, 25-17, 25-10, and 25-10. After a competitive opening set, the Marauders struggled to maintain consistency in the final two frames, allowing the Golden Rams to take control and close out the match.
Millersville (5-16, 1-7) faced challenges on both sides of the court, managing just 22 kills, two aces, and one block while allowing 53 kills from the Golden Rams. Taylor Welter, Alex Nava, and Marin Esch led the offensive effort, with Sidonia Cecco contributing both of the team's aces. Defensively, Sam White notched the lone block, and Becca Hartranft anchored the back row with 17 digs.
The Marauders found themselves trailing early in the first set, struggling to find their rhythm as West Chester jumped out to a 9-4 lead. Two kills from Nava helped Millersville close the gap to within three, but the Golden Rams responded with a six-point run to regain control. Despite efforts from Cecco and Welter to spark the offense, West Chester maintained its momentum to take the opening set.
With the score tied at three early in the second set, the Golden Rams surged ahead with a dominant 9-1 run that put the Marauders on their heels. Caroline Halsey, Welter, Nava, and Amanda Protzman worked to slow the Golden Rams' momentum, but Millersville struggled defensively to contain West Chester's attack, dropping the set and falling behind 0-2 in the match.
West Chester carried their momentum into the third set, opening with a commanding 8-1 scoring run. The Marauders responded with three straight points, but the Golden Rams quickly regained control with another five-point stretch. Despite efforts from Nava and Halsey to pull Millersville within seven, West Chester closed out the set with an eight-point run to secure the sweep.
The Marauders return to action on Oct. 28 when they travel to Bowie State, kicking off a three-match road stretch against the Bulldogs, the Shepherd Rams, and the Raiders from Shippensburg.
