WINTER PARK, Fla. – Women's volleyball fell to Trevecca Nazarene and No. 18 Lynn Saturday afternoon to close out the Rollins Invitational. Despite an early hole in each match, Millersville showed fight in both matches, battling back to make the later sets close.
Trevecca Nazarene took an early 6-1 lead in set one and held that for most of the game. The Marauders cut the deficit to four later, but the Trojans held on for the 25-15 victory. Millersville took its first lead in the second set and hung with the opposition until a five nothing Trevecca Nazarene spurt put the Trojans up eight at 24-16.
Despite falling 3-0, a few Marauders had quality outings. Emma Kerwin led the team in kills with 10 and Caroline Halsey tallied four putaways while recording just one error. Emma Ludwig also had a productive match, recording a double-double with 23 assists and 18 digs.
Lynn entered play with an undefeated record in the vaunted Sunshine State Conference and proved its mettle, downing Millersville in straight sets. However, the Marauders battled back against Lynn in the third set after falling behind 2-0. A 6-0 run gave them their first lead of the match after falling behind 6-1. Taylor Welter had a kill and a block assist in that stretch while Madison Von Neida contributed a service ace.
Lynn would retake the lead, but the Marauders were not through yet, as Alex Nava's service ace a while later made the score 16-17. That was all they would get, as the victors responded with an 8-0 run to close it out. Ludwig was all over the stat sheet once more, notching her second double-double of the afternoon with 13 digs and 15 assists.
