Millersville wrestling recognizes eight seniors on Friday against Kutztown

ABOUT THE MATCH

  • Millersville wrestling, ranked No. 17 in Division II, squares off with PSAC opponent Kutztown Friday in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Golden Bears are ranked No. 21 in the NWCA poll. Millersville holds a 2-3 PSAC standing while Kutztown stands at 3-2 in the PSAC. Coming into the dual, Kutztown is on a two-match losing streak to Gannon and No. 11 Pitt-Johnstown. Millersville is riding a three-match win streak from the Millersville Duals.
  • As part of the dual, Millersville will recognize eight seniors. This group includes Brandon Connor, Craig Cook, Devin Flannery, Anthony Giampietro, Jonathan Parrilla, Eli Tuckey, Josh Tuckey, and Tyler Stanton.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Three Marauders are nationally ranked. Devin Flannery (133) is ranked No. 4 and Anthony Giampietro (184) is ranked No. 9.  Brandon Connor is ranked No. 3 in the 165-pound weight class but has been between 165-pounds and wrestling up in the 174-pound weight class.
  • 10 Marauders have winning records on the season. Connor owns an 18-7 record with three falls, five technical falls, and two major decisions. Connor has placed first at the Glenville State Invitational along with second at the “Shorty” Hitchcock Classic. Not far behind is Giampietro who is 15-7 and has accumulated four falls, three technical falls, and five major decisions. Giampietro was the runner-up the Glenville State Invitational. Flannery boasts an 18-3 record followed with seven falls and five technical falls. Flannery placed second at both the Glenville State Invitational and “Shorty” Hitchcock Open.
  • Craig Cook, overcoming an injury, holds a current 17-7 record along with five falls, four technical falls, and five major decisions. Cook took the first-place finish at the Glenville State Invitational. Cook is one win away from achieving his 100th career win; his current overall record stands at 99-38.
  • Connor could be in a rematch situation at 165- pounds wrestling against No. 7 Dalton Gimbal. In the 2022-23 match-up, Connor was victorious with his 5-3 decision win over Gimbal.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

  • Kutztown has three ranked wrestlers on their roster too. At 157-pounds, Bailey Gimbor is ranked at No. 12. Followed behind Bailey is his brother Dalton Gimbor. Dalton is ranked No. 7 in the 165-pounds weight class. Claiming the No. 3 spot in the 184-pound weight class is Weinberg.
  • 10 Golden Bears having winning records. Bailey Gimbor has logged a 12-2 overall record. To compliment this are two pins, four technical falls, and three major decisions. Dalton has accumulated a 21-5 record along with eight pins, six technical falls, and one major decision.  Weinberg boasts a stellar 17-3 record. Weinberg has six pins, five technical falls, and two major decisions.
  • The Golden Bears are 3-2 in the PSAC with their losses coming from Gannon and No. 11 Pitt-Johnstown.
  • At the Fairmont State Invitational, the Golden Bears earned first place out of 16 teams.
