
Men's golf makes final day charge to tie for seventh

LEBANON, Pa. - The Millersville men's golf team made a late push up the leaderboard, posting one of the final round's best team scores for a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional at Iron Valley Golf Course.
Millersville climbed five spots up the leaderboard with Saturday's 296--a score only bested by three other teams in the field--two of which were Fayetteville State and IUP which, along with Davis & Elkins, finished in the top three for berths to the NCAA Division II Championships. Millersville finished just 10 strokes out of third. Millersville's seventh-place finish was its best at a Super Regional since 2013.
The Marauders' rise on Saturday was led by Ty Morral, who shot a 1-over-par 73. He jumped 10 spots on the individual leaderboard and finished tied for 18th with a 9-over-par three-round score. He closed with a birdie on the par-5 16th and another on the par-3 17th.
Bobby Lugiano entered the day at 3-over-par, but a tough 11th hole put him at a 79 for the round and in a tie for 23rd for the tournament. Noah Keener finished in a tie for 33rd, but he shot Millersville's best round of the tournament on Saturday, posting an ever-par 72. He posted two birdies and two bogeys on the front and added an eagle on the 16th. Carl Ernst also turned in a solid 74 on Saturday, finishing at 17-over for the tournament and in a tie for 53rd. Christopher Knox posted a 77 Saturday for his best round of the tournament. He tied for 92nd overall.
Medalist honors went to Saint Thomas Aquinas' Donte Groppuso, who shot 4-under-par. he held off a final round charge from D&E's Jordan Hyland, who fired a 2-under score on Saturday to finish one shot off the lead. They were the only two golfers in the field to break par.
Millersville's successful season comes to a close after qualifying for the Super Regional for the first time since 2019. The Marauders also placed third at the PSAC Championships in the fall.
