
Marauders can't overcome the No. 1 Golden Rams at Vonnie Gros Field

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 1 Golden Rams offense pulled ahead of Millersville 24-5 on Tuesday afternoon for a PSAC East win. West Chester scored 11 goals in the first quarter which assisted in their 19-goal win over the Marauders, this was the second time this season that West Chester scored more than 20 goals. The Golden Rams maintained their perfect record and improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC East while the Marauders fall to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
Ella Linthicum led the Marauders offense with two goals on the day which both occurred in the second half. Ashlyn Simonetti, Hayden Corcoran, and Liv Genovese would each score once, and Charlotte Lasak and Simonetti would dish out one assist each. Rachel Keeney recorded her 100th career draw control after leading the team with six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Chester got off to a hot start to lead the Marauders 7-0 in the first seven minutes of action. The junior, Liv Genovese, was able to break the Golden Rams momentum after scoring Millersville's first goal of the game. West Chester tallied three additional goals before the quarter ended to lead Millersville 11-1.
- Hayden Corcoran tallied the Marauders second goal with 3:30 remaining in the second. Millersville's only free position shot came in the second which was fired off by Genovese. The Golden Rams maintained their lead by outscoring Millersville 4-1 before and entered the half with a 13-goal lead.
- Simonetti and Linthicum would score back-to-back goals in the third quarter to break up West Chester's 3-0 run. The Golden Rams mirrored the second quarter by scoring four goals, but Millersville's defense limited West Chester to shooting their lowest of seven shots on goal. Morgan Scott would record three saves in the third.
- The Golden Rams would end the match-up with a 19-goal margin after outscoring Millersville 5-1. Linthicum would tally her second goal of the game with 4:31 remaining in the fourth. West Chester would add two more goals to close the match-up, including a goal with 0:02 seconds left in regulation.
- West Chester led the game in shots (37-12), ground balls (22-5), and caused turnovers (14-3).
- Millersville held the advantage draw controls, winning 16 compared to West Chester's 14.
- Genovese ripped a team-high of four shots on goal.
- Keeney led the Marauders in draw controls with six while Genovese won four.
- Millersville's defense held the Golden Rams to shooting their lowest of seven shots in the third quarter.
- The Marauders will look to bounce back on Saturday, Apr. 8 as they travel to face the No. 12 East Stroudsburg Warriors for the second time this season. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
