'Ville football announces third annual Wall of Honor class

Registration for the ceremony and alumni golf outing are open
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Fans are invited to join the Millersville University football team for its alumni weekend on May 19-20. The weekend starts on Friday, May 20 with the third annual Wall of Honor dinner and induction ceremony and is capped by the Dr. Gene A. Carpenter Golf Outing on Saturday, May 20 at Four Seasons Golf Club in Landisville, Pa.
The Marauder greats joining the Wall of Honor in 2023 include Jim Ketner (1970-74/1977-92), T.J. Rudy (1984-87), Scott Francis (2000-Present), Tim Sorber (1992-95), Rich Barbacane (1966-69, 1970-77), Brandon Shelton (2003-07), Tony Devine (1989-92), Ralph Batty (1968-71), Braden Steffy (2000-03), and Bernie Santienello (1958-61).
The ceremony will be held at Heritage Hotel in Landisville, Pa., and starts with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p..m. Tickets are $60 and rooms at the hotel can also be booked in advance by clicking here. The Millersville football Wall of Honor started in 2021 with 11 honorees. All 32 football alumni who had been inducted into the Millersville Athletics Hall of Fame were also included in the first class. The selections are made by a committee alumni. A physical wall of honor is displayed next to the home locker room at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
The following day is the annual Dr. Gene A. Carpenter Golf Outing. The event begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Players can register as a single, twosome, threesome or foursome. 2023 MILLERSVILLE FOOTBALL WALL OF HONOR CLASS
Jim Ketner (1970-1974, 1977-1992)
Ketner is a longtime member of the Marauder football program. As a player, he was a standout defensive back. He was recognized for his efforts being named All-PSAC East Second Team in 1972. After finishing his playing career, Ketner joined the Millersville coaching staff in 1977. He remained on the staff in multiple roles until 1992, serving four years as the defensive coordinator. Following his time with the Marauders, Ketner served as the principal at Blue Mountain High School. He currently works as an assistant on the Kutztown coaching staff.
TJ Rudy (1984-1987)
Rudy was a three-year starter for the Marauders on the defensive line and led the team in sacks his senior year. He was recognized for his efforts with All-PSAC East honors in 1986 and 1987. He was honored as a team captain in 1987. Rudy only lost nine games in his four years with the Marauders. The 1986 the defense surrendered an average of 52 yards per game. Following his time at Millersville, Rudy was part of two state championship teams at Lancaster Catholic in 2009 and 2011.
Scott Francis (2000–Present)
Scott Francis is a 1973 graduate of Millersville, retired from a career in sales and marketing with the Eastman Kodak Co. He has put in over 20 years of service volunteering with the football program, continuing through six head coaching changes. Francis works closely with the coaches and equipment staff to help with the day-to-day practice operations of the program, high school summer camps, and pre-season camp. On game day, he assists the special team coaches with kick and operation timing. Scott helped coach both junior high football and baseball at Madison Ridgeland Academy while living in Mississippi. Scott is a founding member of both the Marauder Athletic Society (now known as the Black & Gold Club) and the Gene Carpenter Football Foundation. He was honored to win the Core Values Award from the athletic department in 2018 and is a two-time recipient of the Jay Chryst Loyalty Award.
Tim Sorber (1992-1995)
Tim Sorber was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Marauders. He was a member of PSAC East Championship teams in 1993 and 1995. After the 1995 season, Tim was rewarded for his production by being named All-PSAC East First Team. In the same season, he was also named All-Northeast Region and honorable mention All-America. The overall record of the Marauders while he was protecting the quarterback was an impressive 32-8-1. After graduation, Tim stayed involved with the game, serving as the head coach at Abington High School for 16 seasons.
Rich Barbacane (1966-1969, 1970-1977)
Rich Barbacane was a three-year starter for the Marauders from 1967-1969. He was honored by his teammates as a co-captain in his senior season. Following his playing career, Barbacane was an assistant coach at Millersville from 1970–1977. He went on to work as a special education teacher and assistant principal. Rich served as a chair of Lancaster United against Truancy and President of National Association of Elementary School Principals. He also served as president of the Gene Carpenter Football Foundation.
Brandon Shelton (2003-2007)
Brandon Shelton was a standout defensive back for the Marauders. He was a four-year starter in the secondary and recognized for his production with All-PSAC East honors in 2006 and 2007. Shelton was also named Millersville's team Defensive Player of the Year. Shelton is still in the Millersville record books, as he is tied for first in career interceptions at with 16. He led the PSAC in interceptions during his senior season.
Tony Devine (1989-1992)
Tony Devine was one of the most productive defensive backs to wear the Black & Gold. He is at the top of the Millersville record books with nine interceptions in one season. He is also tied for fourth in career interceptions with 14. Devine was recognized for his production with three All-PSAC East honors (1990, 1991, 1992). He was also named All-America Second Team in 1990. Devine's production helped the Marauders win two PSAC East Championships during his time with the program.
Ralph Batty (1968-1971)
Ralph Batty was a standout defensive lineman for the Marauders. He was awarded for his efforts by being named All-PSAC East in three consecutive seasons (1969,1970,1971). Batty was Millersville's first three-time All-PSAC East honoree. Serving as a team captain in 1971, Batty played a pivotal role in leading the Marauders to their first winning season under Coach Carpenter. Following his graduation, Batty went on to be a successful high school football coach in the greater Philadelphia area.
Braden Steffy (2000-2003)
Braden Steffy was a four-year starter in the defensive backfield and one of the most decorated safeties in Millersville history. He earned All-PSAC East Second Team honors in 2000 as a freshman. He followed that by earning first team recognition in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He was honored by his teammates by being nominated as a team captain in 2002 and 2003. Braden ranks 20th all-time in single season solo tackles at Millersville. After his time at Millersville, Braden earned a doctoral degree in physical therapy from Arcadia University. He currently works as a clinic director of an outpatient physical therapy office.
Bernie Santienello (1958-1961)
Bernie Santienello was a four-year letterman for the Marauders and All-PSAC East selection in 1961. He was a standout lineman at Millersville, utilizing his abilities on both sides of the ball. He was named team captain in 1961. After graduation, Bernie went on to have a successful coaching career at Millersville, Franklin & Marshall, and McCaskey High School. Because of his success as a player and coach, Bernie was inducted into the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame, the McCaskey Athletics Hall of Fame and Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
