Six players scored double-digits in Millersville’s big win over Shepherd

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Marauders saw six players with double-digits in Wednesday night's victory over the Shepherd Rams. After a tight first two quarters, Millersville turned up the offensive momentum and outscored the Rams 41-20 in the final two quarters of the matchup. Generating turnovers into points was key for Millersville as they scored 30 points from Shepherd's mistakes. The Marauders' 81 points over Shepherd were the most they have scored since Dec. 2 when they defeated Edinboro by 82 points.

Millersville (12-9, 7-8 PSAC) stands at fifth place in the PSAC after tonight's victory. The Rams have dropped their 20th straight game and have yet to pick up a win in the conference this season.

Taylor Langan had a stellar performance as she led Millersville with 18 points and made a season-high of nine steals and seven assists. Langan also led the Marauders in rebounding with eight. Brenna Ortwein and Makiah Shaw each totaled 12 points for Millersville. Shaw tallied her new season-high of three assists while also grabbing three rebounds. Ortwein grabbed four rebounds and put out one assist on the night. Marin Miller, Bria Beverly, and La"Shyra Willams totaled 10 points each, Williams notched her third straight game with double-digits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Marauders were on the board quickly after Shepherd picked up the first points of the game from the tip-off. Millersville went on a 14-2 run which seemed to be enough cushion, but Shepherd rallied back to outscore Millersville 15-6 in the final five minutes to cut their deficit to three-points. Shepherd's offensive run included three consecutive three-pointers from Peyton Grant.
  • In the second, Shepherd was within two points of Millersville three different times, but the Marauders were able to just outscore the Rams 20-18 to maintain a five-point lead headed into the half. Millersville went 8-for-18 from the floor and shot 80% from the free throw line.
  • Starting the third with a 7-2 run, the Marauders began to find their energy to put the Rams away. Millersville used a full court press for much of the game which forced 11 Shepherd turnovers in the third. Shooting 42.86% from the floor and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe, Millersville outscored Shepherd 24-14 to lead the game by 15 points entering the final quarter of action.
  • Shepherd was held to scoring just six points in the fourth which prohibited them from making a comeback. Millersville forced six Shepherd turnovers and held the Rams to shooting 1-of-11 from the floor and attempting only one three-pointer. The Marauders totaled 17 points in the fourth to clinch the 81-55 conference victory.

I thought we played as a team today and the defensive adjustments and attention to detail played a huge part in our success. Hoping to continue to build off this momentum headed into another three-game week."
