LEWISBURG, Pa. – Millersville women's track and field opened its 2023-24 indoor season Saturday at Bucknell's Bison Opener and posted nine PSAC Championships qualifying marks and got an event win from Sarah Hessler in the weight throw.
It was Hessler's debut in the event, and the sophomore wasted no time continuing the Marauders' legacy of domination in the throwing events. Hessler hit 54-4 1/2, which stands as the fifth-best mark in program history.
Hessler wasn't the only Marauder to turn in a top performance as Hannah Sweda ran the fifth-best 3,000-meter time for a Marauder, posting a 10:24.63. It was the fastest time by a Marauder since Elicia Anderson's record-setting run in 2012. Sweda was the top PSAC finisher, and placed third overall behind Bucknell's Abigail Paczewski and unattached Summer Hill.

MORE MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- Millersville picked up a pair of PSAC Championships qualifiers in the 200-meter dash as Emma Elwell posted a 25.81 and Aubrey Sydnor ran a 25.88. Sydnor also qualified in the 400-meter dash with a 1:00,17, which for PSAC standards was converted to a 59.39 because of the track size. Sydnor placed sixth and sophomore Shelby Derkosh took seventh.
- Bri Pollock narrowly missed a PSAC qualifying time in the mile run. She posted a converted time of 5:21.81, which was just 1.81 seconds off the standard. She finished second in the race, and Marissa Mounce placed sixth.
- Freshman Aubrey Bitner debuted with a leap of 17-5 1/2 in the long jump, placing her sixth in the event, and it was good enough to qualify her for the PSAC Championships.
- In the pole vault, both Megan Malecki and Darian Hauf cleared 11-9 3/4 for PSAC cuts. Malecki's height was a personal best and moved her up to second all-time at Millersville behind Hauf.
- Sabela Zablackis competed one of the two pentathlon flights and finished fifth with 2,677 points.
- Saturday's meet was the only competition of the fall semester for the Marauders. They return to the track on Jan. 20 at Franklin & Marshall's Coach I Open.
