ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Marauders conclude their four-game homestand with their final out-of-conference matchup of the season against Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning enter with a record of 1-9 on the season while Millersville sits at 2-5 after falling to No. 8 Jefferson on Dec. 4.
  • It will be a clash of styles between these two teams, as the Marauders prefer to get the ball into the painted area to score. The Lightning have made as many threes as Millersville has attempted this season (66).

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville looks to even up its record in this final contest of a four-game homestand against Goldey-Beacom after going 1-2 in the previous contests. The rest advantage will be on the home team's side, as the Marauders haven't played since falling to No. 8 Jefferson by a score of 65-40 on Dec. 4. That was the team's third game in four days.
  • The Marauders have faced one of the toughest schedules to this point. They have faced two teams ranked in the top 10 in the past three games in No. 10 California (Pa.) and No. 8 Jefferson. At the time of their matchup with Jefferson, the combined record of their opponents so far this season was 35-10, a .777 winning percentage. Removing Slippery Rock (0-4) and Daemen (4-3) makes this a 31-3 mark, good for a .912 winning percentage.
  • The Marauder's offense will be focused on getting the ball to the members of their front court, namely Makiah Shaw, La'Shyra Williams and Morgan Mahoney. They rank first second and third on the team in points per game, respectively, with Shaw (11.3) and Williams (10.7) topping double-digits. The trio tied for second on the team in points against Jefferson with eight apiece last time out.
  • Mahoney was key to the ‘Ville’s victory over Slippery Rock on Dec 2, matching a career-high in points with 16 while also recording five rebounds and two blocks in just 22 minutes. She leads the team in blocks, recording just over one per contest (1.1).
  • Starters Brenna Ortwein (30.9) and Sophie Elstone (30.0) are first and second in minutes per game, respectively. They each look to make an impact on both ends of the floor, as Ortwein is tied with Shaw for second on the team in rebounding (4.9) and Elstone has tallied four blocks so far this season as a guard. Elstone had one of her best games of the season against Jefferson, pacing the 'Ville in points with 10 on five of eight from the field in addition to her defensive contributions.
  • Marin Miller is the final member of the Millersville starting five and has shown signs of heating up after a cold start to the season. She paced the team in points in its victory over Slippery Rock with an efficient 17 points on six shots, including six of six from the line and three of four form beyond the arc. Miller led the team in three-pointers made last season and was selected to the All-PSAC East Second Team for her efforts.
  • Graduate Student Jabria Ingram has been the first guard off the bench for Kira Mowen so far this season. She's shown poise and and patience with the ball in her hands this season, pacing the Marauders in assists per game at 3.3.

SCOUTING THE LIGHTNING

  • Goldey-Beacom enters with a four-game losing skid and a 1-9 record on the season after falling at American International 88-67 on Dec. 10. The Lightning have accumulated a scoring margin of negative 14.5 so far, partly because their only victory was a one-point affair against Mercy. Turnovers have been a weak point for the Lightning, as they are averaging 18.7 per contest, 4.4 more than their opponents.
  • The bulk of the scoring load rests on the shoulders of two underclassmen, freshman Katie Yoder and sophomore Rory Ciszkowski. Yoder leads the team in scoring in her rookie season, averaging 14.7 points per game. She's topped 25 twice so far and also ranks second on the team in rebounding (5.3) and steals (1.1) per contest.
  • Ciszkowski represents what the Lightning excel at: three-point shooting and free throws. She was first in the CACC in three-point percentage last season (47.4) and second in three-pointers made (65). The sophomore is building on that rookie season with 24 threes made thus far on 38.1 percent, both tops on the team among those with more than 20 attempts. Ciszkowski is also shooting 86.7 percent from the charity stripe.
  • Karlee Lemon and Jenissa Varela have been the main distributors so far this season, ranking first and second in assists per game with 3.0 and 2.6, respectively. Lemon is also tops on the team in minutes (30.3) and steals per game (1.2).
  • Goldey-Beacom may be without its leading rebounder for this contest in Senior Janiya Stevens. She's missed the team's last three contests after starting the first seven and averaging 8.4 boards per game. Junior forward Azuri Abraham has filled Stevens' spot in the starting lineup in her absence.

SERIES HISTORY

The programs met last year and the Marauders righted the ship with a 93-64 victory on Nov. 22, 2022. The Marauders won the first five contests beginning in 2006 and ending in 2015.
