  • Series: 6-1
  • Series Streak: 3, Millersville
  • First Meeting: W, 84-57 (1991)
  • Last Meeting: W, 83-78 (2019)

ABOUT THE MATCH

  • Millersville women's basketball brings its 1-2 record to Philadelphia to take on the Holy Family Tigers in a non-conference matchup. This will be the Marauders' last chance for a final tune-up prior to PSAC play, as their next game is against conference foe Cal U on Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
  • The Tigers sit at 4-1 after defeating Millersville's fellow PSAC East member Bloomsburg on Thanksgiving Eve.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville enters this game off a tight road loss at Daemen on Nov. 18. The bout was close throughout, but two Wildcat stops in the final minute sealed the Marauder's 56-52 fate.
  • A few trends have appeared over the first few contests of the season. The Marauder's offense will be focused on getting the ball to the members of their front court, namely La'Shyra Williams, Morgan Mahoney and Makiah Shaw. Each of the three has shined in different moments thus far. Williams paced the team in points against Daemen with 18 and was effective on the offensive glass as well, pulling down five offensive rebounds.
  • Makiah Shaw leads the team in field goals attempted and is tops amongst the trio in minutes per game at 27.7. She was the only Marauder to reach double figures in scoring in each of the first two contests. Mahoney, a sophomore, has earned the start in all three contests thus far and dominated in the overtime period against Shaw. She outscored the Bears 6-4 by herself in the extra session.
  • Starters Sophie Elstone and Brenna Ortwein had their way with Daemen defensively last weekend, notching four and three steals, respectively. Ortwein also tied Williams for the team lead in rebounds with eight while Elstone was just behind with seven. This was not a new development for Ortwein, as the junior guard is tops on the 'Ville with 5.7 boards per contest.
  • Marin Miller is the final member of the Millersville starting five. The sophomore is having a quietly efficient season thus far, canning her eight points per game on 53.3% from the field while shooting 85.7% from the free throw line.
  • Guards Jabria Ingram and Jillian Crawford round out the rotation for the Marauders. Ingram's tops on the 'Ville in assists after the first three contests (nine total, three APG) and Crawford led the team in scoring against Shaw, going six-of-nine for 18 points.
  • The Marauders were picked to finish seventh of nine teams in the PSAC East according to the conference's Preseason Coaches Poll.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • The Tigers enter the game with a 4-1 record and a four-game winning streak. Over that span, the closest final was an eight-point victory over Bloomsburg on Nov. 22. They're outscoring their opponents by over 14 points per game overall.
  • Last season, the Tigers finished at 13-4 in CACC play and eventually advanced to the CACC Tournament Semifinals. They returned 10 players from that squad, most notably guard Skyler Searfoss and center Carolyn Prevost. Both made the All-CACC Second Team after the 2022-23 campaign with Searfoss taking home Rookie of the Year honors as well.
  • Searfoss has continued to play at a high level in her second season, pacing the Tigers in points per game with 11.0 while shooting almost 60% from the field. Prevost has been the anchor of Holy Family's defense, leading the team in blocks. However, after making 56.2% of her shots last season, the senior's fallen to just 28.6% over this campaign.
  • That defense has been the calling card of this team so far. Holy Family has held teams to 53 points per game over the first five games and a field goal percentage of just 33%. Five-foot-ten Guard Taylor Hinkle has been a standout on the perimeter, earning CACC Defensive Player of the Week honors last week. She totaled five steals and 17 rebounds over two games in which the Tigers limited opponents to 44.0 points per game on 27.9 percent shooting. That rebounding effort is a big reason why she paces her squad in rebounds per game at 7.8.
  • Despite being limited to under 20 minutes per game, Carly Bolivar has been a difference-maker for them. The guard paces the team in assists per game (4.0) and steals per game (2.0). She recorded a double-double against Bloomsburg with 23 points and 10 rebounds
  • The Tigers have beaten two PSAC teams thus far in Shippensburg and Bloomsburg. The game against Shippensburg was never in doubt, as Holy Family held a 33-16 lead at halftime. Their matchup with Bloomsburg was a different story, as the game was tight throughout but an 11-0 run by the Tigers in the fourth quarter put it away. Shippensburg was chosen to finish third in the East in the PSAC's preseason coaches poll while Bloomsburg was chosen to finish fourth.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Daemen 56, Millersville 52 (Nov. 18, 2023) - The Marauders came close to breaking the WIldcat's 600+ day home winning streak but fell just short in the final minutes. The team's 25 turnovers are what made the difference, as the visitors out-shot the hosts from the floor and dominated in the paint. La'Shyra Williams led the way for Millersville, pacing the team in points (18), rebounds (8), and blocks (2).
  • Holy Family:  Holy Family 73, Bloomsburg 65 (Nov. 22, 2023) - Holy Family downed its second consecutive PSAC East opponent to notch consecutive victory number four. The Huskies held leads of six and eight points in the first half, but a 11-0 Tiger run in the fourth quarter put them in position to grab the win. Carly Bolivar recorded a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. The victors held a 25 to seven advantage in free throws made.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This will be the seventh meeting between these two programs and the first since New Years Eve of 2019, when the Marauders won 83-78. That win pushed the Marauders' record in the series to 6-1 overall and marked their third consecutive victory. They hold a perfect 4-0 record in Millersville but just a 2-1 mark in Philadelphia.
  • The ‘Ville’s only loss in the matchup came on Dec. 21, 2009 by a 54-35 score in Philadelphia.
