BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Behind All-PSAC performances by Morgan Janiuk and Hannah Sweda, the Millersville women's cross country team took sixth place at Saturday's PSAC Championship for its best finish since 2010.
Janiuk ran a season-low time of 23:34.3 and placed 10th to become Millersville's first top-10 finisher since Elicia Anderson's runner-up performance in 2010. Sweda also ran a season-best time, crossing the finish line in 24:15.9. Her 23rd-place finish landed her All-PSAC Second Team honors. It is the first time since 2014 that two Marauders scored top-30 finishes.
"It was a great day for the team," said Millersville head coach Andy Young. "Hannah, training-wise, has been there all year. She just needed to get rid of a sinus infection she had dealt with for over a month."
All five of Millersville's countable finishes were inside the top 44, and Kaycee McCulough (24:41.7), Bri Pollock (24:46.0) and Olivia Sunderland (24:54.1) ran in a tight pack, finishing 34th, 38th and 44th respectively. The Marauders totaled 149 points, just four behind fifth-place Shippensburg and eight behind fourth-place East Stroudsburg.
"We had lots of great team groupings," said Young. "The team fought hard and after last year's results where we were a little bit dissastisfied, this team was motiviated to be better."
Millersville's finisher saw drastic improvement from 2022 to 2023. Janiuk finished 24 spots higher, Sweda improved by 68 positions (91st and 24th). McCullough jumped 53 spots up the standings and Sunderland improved by 79 spots.
Slippery Rock pulled away with the team championship with five runners cracking the top 20. Edinboro's Kylie Anicic repeated as individual champion, running a time of 21:37.2.
Millersville next competes on Nov. 4 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship held in Lock Haven, Pa.
