Kutztown rallies late to top Millersville

| By:
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Millersville led 17-3 with four matches remaining, but Kutztown scored 16 points in the final four bouts to roar from behind and beat the Marauders 19-17 in PSAC dual action.

Kutztown improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in PSAC action with the win while Millersville dropped to 6-3 and 2-2 in the PSAC. Both teams won five matches, but it was bonus points from seventh ranked Matthew Weinberg (184) and Tyler Fisher (197) that made the difference for the Golden Bears.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Millersville opened the dual by winning five of the first six matches. Bryce Beatty and No. 1-ranked Devin Flannery both earned decisions. Flannery survived a battle with K.J. Fenstermacher by a 2-1 score, getting a third period escape and riding time for the win. Millersville's Tim Uhler pushed former All-American Collin Wickramaratna at 141 pounds, but the 5-3 Wickramaratna pin gave KU its first points. Craig Cook scored five for the Marauders with a 16-1 tech fall at 149 pounds. Eli Tuckey stepped into the dual lineup for the first time this season and added a 9-4 decision. Brandon Cook edged Dalton Gimbor at 165 pounds (5-3), but that was where Millersville's successes stopped.
• Ethan Baney snapped Millersville's streak with an escape and a riding time point to top Andrew Vogelbacher 2-1 at 174 pounds. No. 7 ranked and 17-0 Matthew Weinberg scored a key pinfall in the second period, and Tyler Fisher's major decision at 197 pulled Kutztown within one point. In the final bout of the dual, KU's Dustin Swanson led 1-0 entering the third period. Millersville's Jordan Espinosa escaped to start, but Swanson landed a takedown for a 3-1 lead. Espinosa managed an escape, but could not get the two-pointer than he needed. Swanson's win clinched the dual for the Golden Bears.

REACTION FROM COACH JERRY BOLAND
• Thoughts on the performance with two starters out: "The 10 guys we sent out there tonight were capable of winning bouts, and we didn't get it done. Eli filled in and stepped up with a big win. We needed other guys to step up, and it didn't happen."
• On bouncing back: "It's a bad loss, and maybe I need to reevaluate how I'm doing things. The guys that won all wrestled well and stepped up big. We didn't wrestle poorly in the other matches, but I'll take this one. We will fix some things and move on. It's a quick turnaround, and we need to get ready for Seton Hill on Saturday.
