LANCASTER, Pa. - The Millersville women's cross country team started its 2022 campaign by topping Franklin & Marshall and Lebanon Valley College in the annual Alumni Meet at Baker Field in Lancaster. Morgan Janiuk ran away with the individual victory, leading five Marauders in the top 10.
Janiuk posted an 18:58 in the 5K race, besting the nearest collegiate competitor by a full 30 seconds. The time was a new 5K PR for Janiuk, smashing her previous best by nearly a minute, and it stands as the 22nd-best 5K time in program history. She placed eighth in the same race a season ago.
Abbey Sullivan finished fifth overall with a time of 19:49. Kait Leister (19:57) took seventh with big 5K PR, shaving 58 seconds off her previous best. Hali Wagner (20:20) placed ninth with a PR of her own, and freshman Breia Mayes (20:33) took 10th in her first collegiate race. Millersville also received an 11th-place finish from Samantha Foster (20:41), who cut three seconds off her previous PR, and a 13th-place finish from Hannah Sweda (20:59), who improved her career-best time by more than 18 seconds.
"It's always nice to win a meet," said Millersville head coach Andy Young. "Our team competed well today. Morgan exploded over the last half-mile to take the win over a very good post-collegiate D1 runner. We're excited that she is establishing herself as someone to watch in the PSAC."
Millersville won the team race with 28 points, while LVC totaled 50 and F&M finished with 55.
"We do have work to do still, but a very promising start," said Young.
