LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Morgan Janiuk's ran a PR and one of the best times in program history in leading the Millersville women's cross country team at Saturday's Lock Haven Invitational.
The field of more than 400 athletes was split into two races, and the Marauders had runners in both the Crimson and White races. Janiuk's 13th-place finish helped Millersville to an eighth-place team finish out 34 teams in the Crimson race while Jenna Dumbrowsky took 17th and helped Millersville finish seventh out of 13 teams in the White race.
In her first 6K race of the season, Janiuk posted a 21:57.10, finishing just over 41 seconds behind winner Jessica Hoffman of Scranton. Five of the finishers ahead of Janiuk were from Division I Cornell. Janiuk's time now stands as the fifth-fastest by a Marauder, and it was the best time by a Marauder since 2013.
Abbey Sullivan also ran a PR time of 23:10.4 which moved her up to 14th in the Millersville record books. Sullivan finished in 63rd place and was followed by Hali Wagner's 23:34.60, which was a PR and the 21st-best time in program history. Kait Leister also ran the best time of her career at 23:41.9 and Kaycee McCullough also set a PR at 23:45.60. Both marks cracked Millersville's top 25.
Millersville had 17 runners compete in Saturday's races.
RACE REACTION FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
On the team's performance: "We made some improvements from previous years that we saw in action today. Eighth of 34 in a big meet is very solid. It was an outstanding result for Janiuk who is establishing herself as one of the top PSAC individual contenders. Abbey Sullivan had a breakthrough race as well. Of our top seven, all ran lifetime bests by fairly big margins."
