GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville women's cross country team returned to action for the first time in nearly in a month and posted a sixth-place finish at Gettysburg's Aubrey Shenk Invitational.
The Marauders were one of 17 teams in the field and the lone Division I program. They totaled 178 points, finishing behind Scranton, Saint Francis, Gettysburg, Robert Morris and DeSales.
Millersville's top finisher on the 6K course was Morgan Janiuk, who ran a 24:05.6 for 26th place. Kait Leister ran close behind, finishing fewer than three seconds later (24:08.4) for 28th place. Abbey Sullivan took 35th with a time of 24:21.7. Hannah Sweda ran fourth for the Marauders, taking 41st with a time of 24:30. Kaycee McCullough (25:11.8) and Samantha Foster (25:20.3) placed 57th and 58th respectively.
"We tried a different race plan of bigger packs today," said head coach Andy Young. "It didn't work as well as planned so we will go back to the drawing board and figure out a better plan as championship season approaches."
There were a total of 173 runners in the field, 13 of which were Marauders. Millersville has recorded a top-10 finishes in each of the last two meets.
The Marauders next compete in the LVC Last Chance Run Fast Invitational on Monday, Oct. 24, which serves as a final tune-up for the Nov. 5 PSAC Championships.
