Woelfling takes 16th in shot put at NCAA Championship

PITTSBURG, Ka. – Sophomore standout Hannah Woelfling took 16th place in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday evening. Woelfling recorded a mark of 41-1 on her first attempt.
Zada Swoopes of West Texas A&M won the NCAA Championship with a mark of 58-0 ¼, while Ashlan Burton from Central Missouri took second place with a distance of 50-8 ¾.
"Hannah was just having a little trouble putting things together technically today," throws coach Brittany Hartman said. "She just started throwing the shot again this year, so we have some work to do, but the fact that she made it to this level is very promising."
Millersville has now had a representative in the shot put at five consecutive NCAA Championships, with Sunflower Greene (2017-2019) and Aliyah Striver (2020) both competing at the championship level. The 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships were cancelled due to the pandemic.
Woelfling also competed in the weight throw on Friday, becoming the second Marauder to compete in two throwing events at the NCAA level. She took 18th place with a mark of 49-8 ½. Greene was the other Marauder to be selected in two events, doing so in both the 2018 and 2019 championship meets. She won the shot put both years while recording a pair of top-15 finishes in the weight throw.
