MANSFIELD, Pa. – Millersville women's basketball fell to Mansfield on the road Saturday afternoon, 71-65.
The Marauders began play strong, scoring 23 first-quarter points and forming a six-point lead after one. However, that's when the Mountaineers stepped on the gas; outscoring 'Ville 41-23 throughout the second and third quarters of play to enter the fourth with a 12-point lead. The Mounties controlled the game for most of the fourth, keeping a near double-digit lead throughout. Millersville's (7-16, 6-12 PSAC) best attempt at a comeback came late in the fourth when
Madison Grubb was able to cut the Mansfield (7-15, 6-12 PSAC) lead to five with less than 25 seconds remaining, but the Mountaineers would hold on.
Despite the loss, Millersville still sits in the sixth spot of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East standings, which would qualify the Marauders for a postseason berth. The Marauders still have work to do though, with games against two of the top three teams in the East coming up next week, as they head to Kutztown on Monday and Shepherd on Wednesday.
