ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville women's basketball has found a late-season surge and won four of it last five games coming into Saturday's matchup with Mansfield. The Marauders most recently took down the No. 21 Kutztown Golden Bears at home by a score of 63-60. Mansfield is in the midst of a four-game losing streak and will attempt to slow down the red-hot Marauders in order to snap it.
One game at a time; yes, playoffs is the goal, but everyday we prep for the team we're playing next. Everyday is a grind for us right now and preparation is key.
Head Coach Sharay Hall

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville has found its niche, and that is playing hard, full-court, suffocating defense and translating it to the offensive end of the floor. The Marauders have scored 92 points off turnovers in their last four victories, which is roughly 38% of their total scoring over those four wins. With the teams stellar defensive performance against Kutztown earlier this week, they now have forced more turnovers than any team in the PSAC (478), and average 21.7 forced turnovers per game. This has become the identity of head coach Sharay Hall's group.
  • While Marauder fans are a custom to seeing Lauren Lister, Millersville's all-time leading scorer, provide big numbers; Wednesday night was a sign that she may not need to every game for the group to be successful. Kutztown's second ranked defense in the PSAC decided to take Lister out of the game, forming a box and one defense, which denied her the ball. This forced other Marauders to step up, and they did, as Makiah Shaw scored a career-high 16 points, Ty Taylor scored a season-high 12 points, and Mia Leonard reached double-digit scoring for the third straight game. Offense was an issue for this young Marauder team early on, but the confidence is starting to show up, and multiple players have been producing.
  • The Marauders continue to play physical on both ends of the floor, which has translated to a large amount of trips to the free throw line. The team currently ranks third in free throws attempted and has gone 66-94 from the line over the last five games.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Mansfield is led by Jasmine Hilton, who averages a team-high 11.9 points per contest, she grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in Mansfield's loss to the Marauders earlier this season. Hilton is joined by senior Paige Whitfield who currently averages an even 10 points per game. Whitfield led the Mounties in their loss to Millersville, scoring 13 points and grabbing seven boards.
