CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagles of Clarion secured a win over the Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Sunday afternoon.
Clarion (1-7, 1-2 PSAC) earned their first win of the season over Millersville (6-3, 1-2 PSAC) with a final score of 70-59. The Marauders ended the first quarter with a one-point margin over Clarion. It wasn't long before the Golden Eagles regained the lead which they held for the remaining quarters. Millersville trailed by six entering the final quarter, but the Golden Eagles sustained momentum to earn their first victory over the Marauders by double-digits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter action was tight, with no lead being greater than five-points. With 2:19 left, Jabria Ingram finished a layup which stretched Millersville's lead to three-points. Two free throws from Clarion put the Golden Eagles within one to enter the second.
- Clarion held Millersville to scoring 10-points in the second, with four-points coming from back-to-back jumpers from Makiah Shaw. The Golden Eagles shot 40% on the floor and behind the arc, while the Marauders were 30.77% in field goals and made 1-of-4 three-pointers.
- Marin Miller drained a three to put Millersville within one-point to enter the third quarter. Clarion answered with a nine-point run to give them a double-digit lead, 41-31. The Marauders generated seven additional points, but still trailed the Golden Eagles by six to enter the final quarter.
- Clarion held a 26-21 scoring edge over Millersville in the fourth. Bria Beverly drained a three-pointer to put the Marauders within seven with 1:12 remaining. The Golden Eagles outscored Millersville 6-2 with 0:39 seconds left on the clock to secure Clarion's first win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Shaw led the box for Millersville and tallied her season-high of 15-points. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists, and tallied two steals.
- Brenna Ortwein and Beverly each contributed nine-points while Taylor Langan and La'Shyra Williams recorded seven. Ortwein lead the team by grabbing 10 rebounds on the day.
- Ingram tallied her season-high in assists by dishing out four. She also grabbed five rebounds and totaled two-points.
- The Golden eagles held the edge in points off turnovers (15-8), bench points (24-15), and fast break points (19-10).
- The Marauders held the edge in second chance points (10-5) and points in the paint (30-22).
- Millersville shot their best from the floor in the first quarter, draining 7-of-16.
