ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville women’s basketball team played their last game on Saturday, Dec. 3 where they fell to the Lakers of Mercyhurst after hosting back-to-back PSAC matchups over the weekend. The Marauders clinched the win over Edinboro on Friday but fell to Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. Millersville is looking to bounce back as they host The University of the District of Columbia in Pucillo Gymnasium on Wednesday, Dec. 14 for a non-conference matchup against the Marauders. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.  

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • After the loss to Mercyhurst, the Marauders dropped to 5-2 overall and evened to 1-1 in the PSAC. Millersville ranks third in the conference in scoring, averaging 79.4 points per contest. The Marauders are also shooting well from the floor, ranking second in the PSAC with a .468 field goal percentage. Millersville is tied for first with Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the lowest average in points allowed per contest with 53.7.
  • The women’s basketball team is seeing Marauders enter the top-10 for conference leaders in various categories. Taylor Langan who is Millersville’s offensive leader ranks 10th in the PSAC in scoring (15.7 avg) and fifth in field goal percentage (.519). The Freshman point guard, Marin Miller, leads the PSAC from the free-throw line with a .957 percentage. Morgan Mahoney and La’Shyra Williams rank fifth and sixth in blocked shots, and Brenna Ortwein lands at third in the conference in steals with 21 (3.0 avg).  

SCOUTING THE FIREBIRDS

  • The University of the District of Columbia women’s basketball team enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 5-5 overall record and are 2-1 in the Eastern Coast Conference. The Firebirds dropped their most recent match by seven-points to Chestnut Hill on Dec. 10. UDC’s offense has been led by Junior Latavia Jackson (17.4 avg), Sophomores Destiny Ryles (16.9 avg), and Shanell Haskins (12.5 avg). Jackson is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game and has scored double-digits in every game but one this season.  

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Mercyhurst 75, Millersville 62 (Dec. 3, 2022) - A late fourth quarter run propelled Mercyhurst over Millersville to give the Marauders their second loss of the season. The Lakers outscored the Marauders 21-13 in the fourth, 17-5 in the final four minutes of play. The Marauders led the Lakers in the first and second quarters of the game. The third was a tough battle as teams fought to gain a lead with three tied scored and five lead changes. The Lakers saw their largest lead of the match during the fourth when a jumper gave Mercyhurst a 16-point cushion over Millersville.
  • UDC: Chestnut Hill 63, UDC 56 (Dec. 10, 2022) - The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to Chestnut Hill 56-63. Seven players made it on to the scoreboard for the Firebirds with Latavia Jackson and Shanell Haskins leading the way with 12 and 10 points. Jackson also posted seven rebounds and a game high five steals. Janiya Smith came off the bench to add nine points and Kensley Benjamin posted eight points going 2-3 from behind the arc.

SERIES HISTORY VS. UDC

University of the District of Columbia leads the all-time series with a one game edge over Millersville, 6-5. The Marauders are 4-0 over the Firebirds at home but drop 1-3 in away contests. UDC won the last meeting against Millersville, defeating the Marauders 61-56.  

  • The Last Meeting vs. UDC – UDC 61, Millersville 56 (Nov. 19, 2021) - Millersville women's basketball was unable to pull through late, falling to University of The District of Columbia, 61-55. Lauren Lister was able to give Millersville a near 20-point performance with 18 on the night. Freshman, Bria Beverly, scored 12 in 24 minutes off the bench and Brenna Ortwein had a near double-double in her fourth start of the season, scoring eight and grabbing seven boards.
