LEBANON, Pa. - Millersville started Sunday in third place, and that's where the Marauders finished the 2022 PSAC Championship, shooting a third-round 309 to hold off West Chester but unable to gain ground on runner-up Gannon and winner Indiana (Pa.).
The third-place finish Millersville's best since 2020 and a nice bound back after two-straight eighth-place finishes at the conference championship. Millersville finished the tournament at 46-over, 10 shot clear of West Chester. IUP was the lone team in the field to shoot under 300 in all three rounds, led wire to wire, and won the championship by 15 shots with a 16-over total.
Millersville was led by a pair of top-10 finishers in Christopher Knox and Bobby Lugiano. Knox started Sunday in a tie for first place at 1-over-par but slipped down the leaderboard after going 4-over on his final two holes. Still, Knox finished at 9-over-par for the tournament and in seventh place. Knox matched his best career 54-hole score and produced his fourth career top-10.
Lugiano cracked the top 10 by finishing at 11-over-par. He was steady throughout the tournament, shooting rounds of 77 and 74 before posting a 76 on Sunday. Ty Morral placed 13th after rallying from Saturday's 80 with a 75 on Sunday. Noah Keener finished his tournament in a tie for 15th at 16-over. Carl Ernst tied for 22nd at 21-over. Both Keener and Ernst shot 79s on Sunday.
IUP's Guillermo Salazar stormed to medalist honors Sunday with the day's only under-par round. He was 5-under at the turn Sunday and finished at 3-under on the day and 1-over for the tournament after a double bogey on No. 18. It was just enough to edge Gannon's Abe Holmes, who shot even-par on Saturday and Sunday to finish at 2-over for the tournament.
The championship completed Millersville's fall season.
